The Celtics were at home last night and that means that Tommy was tweeting live throughout the game again. He was definitely on his game last night and at times was even more entertaining than the game. I sure do miss him when the C's are on national TV and I'm stuck with the other guys. Tommy should be declared a National Treasure. Here's the best of Tommy from last night. He started out discussing Doc's change in the starting lineup to insert the two Jasons and the challenge he has faced this season. On Doc's challenge of finding the right formula "If he makes this thing work by the end of the year. He ought to win the coach of the year." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 One thing for certain about this year's Celtics is that they have been consistently inconsistent. Here's Tommy's take on the Celtics' efforts to find some sort of consistency. On the Celtics' search for consistency. "I'm hoping that John Wayne shows up for the search." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 I love it when Rondo is aggressive and takes it to the basket. Tommy does too. "Zeller thought (Rondo) was going to go with the left hand, but he put it up his nose... with the right hand." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 Tommy isn't a fan of other teams being physical and lets us know about it. KG sinks the alley-oop before being fouled by Gee "He comes over and almost knocks him into the balcony... that's a hard foul!" — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 Paul Pierce was focused last night. He had a game for the ages. 40 points on 13-16 shooting, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block. He put the team on his back and refused to let them lose. Pierce hits the contested shot. "You would think he would get a little disturbed with three guys coming at him... doesn't even notice them." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 The officiating seemed to take a turn for the worse toward the end of the game. They made some terrible calls down the stretch including a foul called on a clean block by KG, a bogus foul on Rondo that left CJ Miles snickering, and a blocking foul called on Collins when he was clearly set outside the circle and a flagrant 1 called on Collins. Tommy noted each and every one of them, at one point saying that every time the Celtics have Zach Zarba, he makes things up. "I want to say something right now. That was a foul on Rondo. They have been calling the same exact thing for Irving.Call them." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 After the foul..."Miles is laughing. That was bogus." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 "He's outside! That's a terrible call! I'm getting aggravated!I shouldn't be aggravated during the holidays!" — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 Jason Collins is done for the night after being called for the flagrant."Give me a break! He got a piece of the ball!" — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 Courtney Lee is still struggling. I'm not sure what it will take to get him on track. Doc has tried starting him, bringing him off the bench, playing with Rondo, playing with Terry, playing with Barbosa. I really hope he gets it soon. But there are rumors that Danny is actively shopping him also. Tommy said just one word, but that word showed everyone's feelings about Lee's performance so far as a Celtic.  This also shows a theme of Tommy's comments as he constantly urged the Celtics to be aggressive and go to the hoop.  I agree with Tommy.  They are too passive sometimes.  "GO!ATTACK!"Courtney Lee drops the hard pass. "Ugh..." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 And finally, there is just one choice for the Tommy Award: The Captain, and the Truth - Paul Pierce. "You gotta be kidding me to think it is anyone but Paul Pierce... He was the game tonight.Paul Pierce wins the #TommyAward." — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) December 20, 2012 [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Video: Full highlights of Pierce's 40 point night

Paul Pierce was on fire last night vs. the Cavs. He shot 13/16 from the field and 6/7 from behind the arc. This means his eFG% was a remarkable 100% And for kicks he was also a perfect 8/8 from the line. That's pretty much the equivalent of a perfect game. Pierce wasn't just satisfied putting up big scoring numbers. He also finished with 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals...

Celtics Playbook: Paul Pierce Off-Screen Plays

We covered much of Paul Pierce’s work so far over the weekend, but against San Antonio, he showed us a way that he could probably be utilized more as the season progresses. When the Celtics use Pierce in Off Screen plays, he has been pretty average. His efficiency isn’t elite — 0.86 PPP, good for 23rd in the NBA — but it’s sufficient. What’s surprising is that Off Screen...

Pierce's 35 Points Not Enough as Celtics Fall to Bucks 99-94 in OT

From a basketball purist point of view, this game was very ugly. No one on the Celtics could hit the broad side of a barn except Paul Pierce. In fairness, some of the shots were missed due to being hacked or bumped and no fouls were called. The Celtics 3 times had leads of 10 points and gave every one up as the result of sloppy and passive play and the inability to hit a shot...

Game #25 Recap: Paul Pierce drops 40 as Boston Celtics beat Cleveland Cavaliers

Boston Celtics 103, Cleveland Cavaliers 91 It was a tight game, until it wasn’t. Then it was again, then it wasn’t. So it goes for Paul Pierce and these Boston Celtics, who seem to make it hard for themselves even in blowout wins. Boston ended a three-game losing skid and moved back over .500 with [...]

Your Morning Dump… Where Jason Collins had an amazing impact last night

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “Jason Collins, for getting one point and two rebounds, had an amazing impact on the game for us,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. His ability to defend the post and draw charges not only provided a much-needed...

Pierce turned back the clock with a season-high 40 points on Wednesday in a 103-91 home win...

Paul Pierce Is Celtics’ Lone Bright Spot as Team Goes Cold Shooting (Video)

As NESN Daily‘s Jamison Coyle points out, if the Milwaukee Bucks played the Celtics 82 times, they’d be NBA champions. Fortunately for Boston that’s not how the league works. The Bucks definitely have the Celtics’ number, however, beating them for the third time on the season Friday. Paul Pierce was the lone bright spot for Boston, going for 35 points in the overtime loss...

Pierce, Celtics get past Cavs

Although it wasn’t their best performance, the Celtics were able to get past the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-91 at the TD Garden. Despite the win, there shouldn’t be much stock put into it as the Cavs came into the game with just five wins on the year. Paul Pierced led the charge with a season-high 40 points. Pierce also added eight rebounds and five assists. Rajon Rondo added 20...

Jason Collins Emerges As Celtics' Starting Center

Jason Terry Takes Dig At Ray Allen

Two months after his 35th birthday, Celtics captain Paul Pierce scored 40 points on 16 shots in Wednesday night’s 103-91 victory against the Cavaliers. It took a superhuman effort, as his three most veteran teammates can attest. Maybe that’s why Jason Terry called him Kryptonite in the locker room afterwards. “Not a lot of guys in this league stay in one franchise,” said...
