I. Introduction When I've first heard the news that we've traded Big Baby Davis for Brandon Bass, I couldn't hide my joy. I thought that was a no brainer; you get a professional, consistent guy for a, well, big baby. Last year, he proved that he was the kind of guy that the team needed: someone to stretch the floor with a consistent mid-range shot thread and occasionally hustle for the rebounds. His debut was impressive with 20 points and 11 rebounds against the Knicks, and he followed that up with seven double-doubles, 5 20+ point games and 19 games where he'd grab 20%+ of the defensive rebounds available. Despite his disappearance come playoff time except for a couple of big games against the Sixers and the Heat, the Celtics were happy to sign him to a new contract. II. Case Bass started this season with another impressive double-double against the Heat, and this led the majority of us to think that he'd repeat his impressive regular season stint. Alas, thi...

Why Jeff Green has been inefficient in the post (and how to fix it)

Has Boston been using Jeff Green correctly in the post? One of the most encouraging developments we’ve seen as Boston continues to reel off impressive victories against playoff teams has been the offensive progression of Jeff Green. The Celtics have clearly told Green to look for his own shot as often as possible, and he has obliged, scoring 1.14 points per possession in spot-up...

5 Things Celtics must do to win - Hawks 3/8

After their thrilling win over the Pacers, the Celtics will head home for a meeting with the Hawks. The Hawks currently sit a game ahead of Boston for the six seed in the east, so this one will be very important. Recently, the C's have looked unbeatable at home, and I kinda expect that to continue. The only reason why I won't guarantee a win is because you can't. Last...

Opposing Guards Have Asked Celtics Avery Bradley To Ease Up On Defense

Boston Celtics second year guard Avery Bradley is an absolute beast on defense and drives opposing guards crazy when they play against him. Bradley took a scorching Stephen Curry and hounded him into a miserable 6-22 shooting performance, right after Curry lit up the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden for 54 points. Bradley only has one goal when he takes the basketball court...

Paul Pierce Quiet Hero as Celtics Execute Game-Winning Play, Serve Notice They Are Still Factor in East

These are the moments Paul Pierce lives for. The score was tied, the Celtics had possession and there was enough time for one final shot to steal a road win against one of the NBA’s elite clubs. In almost every similar situation previously, the ball has gone to Pierce, his teammates have cleared his side of the floor and the shifty veteran has gone to work for the inevitable, contested...

Doc Rivers Believes Jordan Crawford, Terrence Williams, Other Newcomers Need to Start Learning ‘Celtics Way’

WALTHAM, Mass. — As the unofficial second half of the season heats up, the Celtics have dispensed with any talk of how they will proceed after losing Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and former member Leandro Barbosa to season-ending injuries. Subsequently, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge decided against subtracting major players and instead made more modest...

Video: Boston Celtics 2013 "Must Persevere" mix

I think you guys are going to love this. Very well done mix by Knocturnal G. Someone forgot to tell the Celtics they were supposed to be done. Check out our Video Vault for more Celtics mixes, videos, and movies.

The Boston Celtics are up to their same old tricks

The looks on the Pacers faces after Jeff Green’s last second game winning layup are priceless (click to enlarge). The Celtics just beat the Indiana Pacers (the #2 team in the East) in the second night of back to back games road games; something they’ve shockingly done twice in a row against very good opponents (Utah 9 days ago, in the “best win of the year” until now), after...

Boston Celtics 107 - Atlanta Hawks 102 highlights and box score

The Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks had another overtime showdown on Friday night, and luckily the Celtics escaped without any torn ACLs. Boston came out victorious by a margin of 107-102, and Paul Pierce led the Celtics' scoring with 27 points. First half highlights from the NBA and 4th quarter/OT highlights from ESPN above, box score below. Atlanta Hawks 102, Boston...

Green’s Game Winner Completes A Miracolous Comeback By The Celtics

It was the biggest play of the season. With 23 seconds to play in a tie game, Doc Rivers devised a brilliant play using Paul Pierce as a decoy/screen-setter to get Jeff Green wide open in the paint for the game winning layup. It was the biggest win of the season. On the second night of a back-to-back, on the road against a Pacers (38-23) team with the second-best record in the East...

Paul Pierce Huddle-Bombs Sixers

This is one of the greatest huddle-bombs you’re going to see. Pierce didn’t even try to sneak in…. he just walks right up,  past Spencer Hawes, who looks directly at him, and drapes his arm around two Sixers to listen in on the last few seconds. Yep so much for a team of fierce competitors

Bradley Leads The Celtics Over The 76ers

Celtics 109, 76ers 101 Avery Bradley stepped into the role of defensive leader and communicator over the weekend as Kevin Garnett (along with Paul Pierce and the rest of the 35-and-over crew) missed practice to rest up in preparation before another stretch of five games in seven days. According to ESPNBoston, the 22-year-old found his voice while leading a practice group with an...

The Real Reason The Celtics Seem Better Without Rondo

Photo: ESPN   A.B. Everywhere you look some idiot somewhere is talking about how the Celtics might be better without Rondo. They will site things like, “The Celtics are 15-7 this season without Rondo, and 12-4 since he went down”. They might even look at the statistics of the team and individual players while he’s been out. The problem with these numbers is they do not take...

The Game Winner

To be honest, I didn't think the C's could pull this off.  Trailing for most of the game and down by 14 midway through the 3rd quarter, the Celtics, I thought, were beginning to tire on the second night of  back-to-back road games.  But slowly their resolve surfaced.  First through the Big Ticket, then through the Captain, and then on through the rest of the team - JET...

Celtics-Pacers Live: Avery Bradley Tries to Bring Offensive Firepower Into Indianapolis

8 a.m. ET: The Celtics are in for a real test. After taking care of business with wins over the Warriors and Sixers — wins that should be expected — they drive into Indianapolis to face one of the league’s toughest up-and-coming squads. The Pacers (38-22) are really good, especially defensively. They allow the second-fewest points per game and hold opponents to the lowest field...
