Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony (Photo credit: Isaac Baldizon/NBAE via Getty Images) With the 2013-14 NBA regular season exactly a month away, there are several issues that the New York Knicks must deal with. 1. Amar’e Stoudemire’s health With the Knicks training camp beginning this Tuesday and the first regular season game a month away, much concern surrounds Stoudemire’s ability to remain off the bench and deliver on the court during the 2013-2014 season, after undergoing his latest surgery on his right knee. One of Amar’e's biggest goal this season is to stay healthy, besides winning a championship. From a detached retina in his right eye back in 2009 to a left knee debrigment in 2012, Knicks power forward has sustained about a total of 11 injuries since his inception of his NBA career in 2002. To be cautious and preserve the health of his knees, the injury prone Knicks star has been placed on minutes restrictions of about 20 minutes a night and may not be used in both ends of back-to-backs. 2. Melo’s opt-out clause As many Knick fanatics know, it is likely that the face of the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony may opt-out of his contract after this season. If the Knicks fail to prove that they can make it to the NBA Finals, the Knicks star may be throwing up the deuces to the Big Apple and venturing off to test free agency. 3. Steve Mills replaces Glen Grunwald as the new GM There has been a lot of raised eyebrows when the Knicks announced on Thursday that former MSG executive Steve Mills replaced the former Knicks General Manager Glen Grunwald. It was Mills who suggested Isiah Thomas be hired as team president. Thomas was later involved in the 2006 sexual harassment fiasco involving Anucha Browne Saunders, which resulted in Browne suing Thomas and the Garden. But the big question is why replace Grunwald now as the team Is set to start training camp. After all it was under Grunwald’s management that the Knicks won 54 games and did so well in a playoff series for the first time in 13 years last season. Some are concerned that Isiah Thomas may return which, brings to question the future of Mike Woods job as coach, since he was quite close to Grunwald. 4. How long will J.R. remain on the bench? While The Reigning Sixth man is known for his talent on the court, he is also known for being just a bit on the careless side as well. From sporting blonde hair to now facing suspension of five games without pay for violating the terms of the NBA’s anti-drug program, no one knows for sure when he will actually be back on the court to help the team. It all depends on when he fully recovers from knee surgery.

Knicks try to become better before Melo decision

Carmelo Anthony feels there is no reason to think about his potential free agency now. The New York Knicks don't seem so sure. The Knicks followed their first Atlantic Division championship team in 19 years with a strangely timed change in the front office, just days before opening training camp. Steve Mills returned to Madison Square Garden as president and general manager...

JR Smith Admits Delaying His Knee Surgery Until He Got a New Contract

By Kenneth Teape The New York Knicks, on the verge of training camp opening up next week, have made yet another change to the organization.
