After breaking his hand for the second time in a year, Kevin Love will undergo surgery.  The procedure will be to repair the third and fourth metacarpals in the Minnesota Timberwolves' star's hand.   As soon as the surgery is complete, Love can begin rehab and focus on returning to the court.According to the Associated Press (via NBA.com), Love is scheduled to undergo surgery today.  He will have the procedure done by Dr. Michelle Carson."Love is expected to return sometime in March. The Wolves assessed a recovery time of eight to 10 weeks after he was hurt."Love will be missed as the Timberwolves continue to fight for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.  They are currently two games under .500 and sitting 2 1/2 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot.  Because of the injuries the team has sustained this season, it seems unlikely that they will make a run and get into the postseason, and Love's injury surely doesn't help.Love is averaging 18.3 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per game this season.  He is in his fifth NBA season.  Throughout his career, Love has been known as a guy who would crash the boards, but he has stepped up his scoring in each of the previous two seasons leading into this year.Follow @hoopsinjurynews!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://www.nbainjurynews.com//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-34100676-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love underwent right hand surgery Tuesday, and he's expected to miss another eight to 10 weeks. According to the team, Love had his broken third and fourth metacarpal bones repaired by Dr. Michelle Carson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The operation came nearly two weeks after Love was hurt during a Jan. 3 loss to the...

Report: Kevin Love Undergoes Successful Surgery on Broken Hand

The Timberwolves finally got some positive injury news on Tuesday. Minnesota’s coveted power forward Kevin Love underwent successful surgery Tuesday morning to repair his broken right hand, according to CBSSports.com. He suffered the injury on Jan. 3 against the Denver Nuggets. Currently, Love is averaging a staggering 18.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game. Minnesota...

Niesen: Now's the time for Wolves trade

That was bad. That was exhausted and undisciplined and very possibly a major statement about what's to come. When the Timberwolves left Minneapolis last Tuesday night, it was on the heels of a surprise win over Atlanta. (Never mind that the Hawks have somewhat imploded since.) It was with a 16-15 record in spite of several seasons' worth of injuries compressed into two...

The Time is Now for Derrick Williams

Ed Note: Please welcome guest columnist Michael Pina. Michael volunteered to write an article for us on Derrick Williams, and how he must seize the day with Love out indefinitely. Do enjoy. Is Derrick Williams the next Michael Beasley? Comparisons are beginning to take form. Are they fair? After an incredible freshman campaign at Kansas State University that was favorable...

Defense May be More of an Issue for Timberwolves Than Injuries

There is no denying that injuries have played a large role in the Minnesota Timberwolves' fall-off in the Western Conference standings.  The Timberwolves were once primed to be able to make a run to the postseason.  Now, they will struggle to even get in.  But despite the injuries, it could be defense that is hurting them more than anything.According to John Schuhman of NBA...

Wolves Wednesday: Adelman pays a visit

MINNEAPOLIS Rick Adelman visited with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday morning, offering his team something of a pep talk before returning to his wife, who is hospitalized.Adelman didn't lead practice he hasn't in more than a week and assistant coach Terry Porter will remain in charge at least through Thursday's game against the Clippers at the Target Center...

Rubio Has More Games Played (9) Than Field Goals (6)

Ricky Rubio is 6-for-33 (18.2 percent shooting) during his first nine games of the season.

The Intelligent Player: Rubio vs. Maravich

Jan.16,2013 I was reading comments in a basketball forum about the lackluster player of Ricky Rubio since he's returned from a serious ACL injury suffered last year. Rubio has had a real tough time since he started playing again last month, and does not appear to be moving as well as he did before he  was injured last March. So there have been a number of posters on various...

Timberwolves Rookie Shved has high praise for Spurs' Parker

Prior to San Antonio’s 106-88 fourth quarter victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, I had a chance to speak with Wolves Russian rookie Alexey Shved. Though Shved is a rookie, he’s had his run against NBA caliber players as he went head to head with Manu Ginobili (Argentina), Tiago Splitter (Brazil), and Patty Mills (Australia) when Russia played against each squad...

Report: Wolves nearing deal with Gelabale

When Valencia signed Mickael Gelabale back in mid-December to help close out their season in the ACB League and EuroCup, there was question even then how long he would be around. The answer: 5 games. It did not take long for the 6-foot-7 small forward out of France to apply the NBA opt-out clause in his contract and now after beginning the season in Croatia with Cedevita Zagreb...

Spurs 106, Timberwolves 88

SAN ANTONIO - The Minnesota Timberwolves fought admirably, as they have all season despite many injuries, but a road game against the home-tough Spurs was too tall an order, as the Timberwolves fell 106-88 Sunday at the AT&T Center. Tony Parker scored 20 points, and Gary Neal had 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, when he ignited a spurt for the Spurs (29-11). The...
