TEAMS: Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets
Will Rudy Gay be in Memphis for the remained of the season?credit: cdn.tss.uproxx.com A hot topic around the NBA as of late has been whether the Memphis Grizzlies will look to deal Rudy Gay before the deadline. There is no doubt that Gay is a good player, but he is earning over $16 million this season, and will make over $37 million over the next two years. The team could be looking to lower their tax bill, and Gay could be the victim. The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the teams rumored to be a possible destination for the swing man. But reportedly, Rudy Gay was offered to the Wolves, who promptly turned down the offer. Two-and-a-half years later, Gay is readily available — mostly because the Grizzlies, barring a trade of either him or another high-priced player, will be in luxury tax purgatory. So, this is Kahn’s chance to land a player he has long coveted. But according to a league source, he turned down a trade proposal from Memphis for Gay recently. In fact, the source insists Kahn said no immediately. It’s unknown what Memphis’ idea was, but since it was turned down emphatically, logic suggests it involved All-Star Kevin Love and/or center Nikola Pekovic. It’s possible three- or four-team trade scenarios were discussed, too. It would be interesting to see what the actual offer was that made Kahn turn it down so quickly. Pairing Rudy Gay with a healthy Kevin Love could be a big upgrade for the team, assuming they didn’t have to give up Love, Rubio, or possibly Pekovic. We’ll see if the Grizzlies can find the right deal to lower the tax bill but still stay competitive. The Brooklyn Nets were involved in a similar situation when they acquired Joe Johnson, a good but overpaid player. -Mark Evans, Assistant Manager/Editor of Content Follow us on Twitter The post Timberwolves Turned Down Offer For Rudy Gay? appeared first on Pass The Pill.
