MINNEAPOLIS The Timberwolves waived forward Lazar Hayward on Sunday after he appeared in two games with the team, logging two points, two assists and a rebound in 12 total minutes. Hayward signed with Minnesota on Dec. 31 after remaining a free agent through the season's first two months. He was a piece in the deal that send James Harden from Oklahoma City to Houston, and almost immediately after the trade, the Rockets waived him. He'd been working out in Los Angeles before the Timberwolves signed him. Hayward was rusty in his two games with the team, and he appeared only in a very limited role. His defense especially seemed lacking, and it doesn't come as a surprise that the team decided to part ways. All NBA contracts become guaranteed on Jan. 10, and the option to sign players to 10-day contracts began Saturday, so it's likely that the Timberwolves will pursue that route to fill the 15th and final roster spot that Hayward vacated.
