Trading Pau Gasol is a Step into the Abyss

It has been reported that new Memphis Grizzlies coach Mark Iavaroni met with Pau Gasol in Barcelona last week. Hopefully it was an attempt to bring Gasol back into the fold of wanting to continue his career in Memphis. It was probably a two way process because as an NBA lifer, Iavaroni has to know that his job will be much easier with a motivated and engaged Pau Gasol. He also has to know that it would be in his and the franchises best interest to trade Gasol this summer if his heart isn't in it. Our young team simply cannot grow and thrive with the Pau Gasol we saw come back and play for Mike Fratello and I am sure Iavaroni won't squander his first coaching job screwing around with baby sitting the supposed franchise player. However, as much as I think it is a flawed plan to build around Pau gasol going forward, I know that Gasol can be a big part of a championship contending NBA team if used correctly. Pau Gasol is ...
