Al-Farouq Aminu of the New Orleans Pelicans has never looked much like a star player in his brief time in the NBA. However, with effort, smart play, and his athletic ability, he has been able to continually carve out minutes since coming to New Orleans.
On Wednesday night, we were all thankful he was on the floor to finish this nasty alley-oop from Jrue Holiday all over a helpless Jose Calderon:
The underrated part of that dunk is the fact that the oop isn’t that great and Calderon forces Aminu a little deeper into the post so that it looks like he’s almost directly under the backboard when he flushes it.
New Orleans may not have Anthony Davis due to a broken hand, but they are showing that they can still produce some highlights.

Point guard Jose Calderon limped noticeably as he left the American Airlines Center after the Dallas Mavericks’ win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night.
After a one-game absence due to a bone bruise in his right ankle, Calderon returned to Dallas’ starting lineup and played 33 serviceable minutes, but the day-to-day designation will apparently continue as the Mavs begin...
For our early season impressions, I initially planned to cover the Chicago Bulls (Derrick Rose’s return) and the New Orleans Pelicans. I abandoned the Bulls after this happened (my depression didn’t allow me to get beyond a few sentences), so I turned to the Pelicans, and a Team To Be Named Later. Apparently, I am one big, fat jinxing troll:
Anthony Davis suffered a non-displaced...
The New Orleans Pelicans kept their win streak going in their first game without Anthony Davis.
They're going to have to get used to his absence.
