Tweet The Cleveland Cavaliers certainly caught the majority of the basketball-watching nation off-guard in the 2013 NBA Draft when they selected Anthony Bennett out of UNLV with the first-overall pick. Bennett has had his issues this summer recovering from shoulder surgery and with getting back in in shape. However, as the Cavs took on the Orlando Magic on Friday in preseason action, Bennett showed what he can bring to this team. After struggling and having only two points after three quarters, the rookie caught fire in the final period, unleashing this offensive barrage: In case you weren’t keeping count, that was 14 points over the course of four minutes that Bennett put up. He still has work to do as far as getting in shape, playing better defense and picking up the nuances of the NBA game. However, when he can score like that, it’s clear that he deserves to be in this league.

As a 25-year old rookie, Miami graduate Kenny Kadji was completely overlooked coming out of college, going undrafted. The Cleveland Cavaliers picked him up for the Summer League squad, and Kadji has impressed many. What other teams saw as an age concern, Kenny Kadji sees as a developmental benefit, meaning Kadji aims to contribute immediately. In his preseason debut, Kadji showed...
Anthony Bennett gave us a taste of that top pick rationale last night. The Cavaliers looked lifeless defensively in the first half as Orlando shot 59% and dropped 8 three-pointers and 62 points on the Cavaliers. But, Dion Waiters caught fire in the third quarter, and the wine and gold’s pair of first round picks each had scoring binges of their own late in the contest. Bennett...
In the preseason opener against the Milwaukee Bucks, number one pick Anthony Bennett was all but spectacular, especially on the offensive end, going 2-12 from the field, including 3-8 from the line and 0-3 behind the arc. He did grab 10 boards and showed definite explosiveness, but his shot just looked like it lacked touch.
Bennett looked the exact opposite last night against the...
The Cavaliers have announced second year center Tyler Zeller underwent an appendectomy Friday to treat his acute appendicitis.
“Cavaliers center Tyler Zeller was diagnosed with acute appendicitis yesterday in Cleveland and subsequently had an appendectomy at the Cleveland Clinic. He is now recovering at the Cleveland Clinic after the successful procedure and will undergo a...
The good part about it is we have guys and we don’t have to rely on him as most teams would a No. 1 pick, so we can bring him along slowly. We’ll let him move and grow as quickly as he does, and not put any pressure on him to get there sooner rather than later. It’s a luxury of being around the group of guys we have here. They’ll be able to carry him until he can get to a...
Anthony Bennett is a large human.
I’d like to thank the Cavs and the NBA for making the decision to televise all eight of the Cavaliers’ preseason games. The anticipation for the Cavs’ first non-tanking, post-LeBron season has been absolutely killing me and televising these meaningless exhibition games has really allowed me to quench my basketball thirst. I’m not sure why it...
Overall No. 1 draft pick Anthony Bennett scored 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and Dion Waiters had 21 as the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied for a 110-105 preseason victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
Bennett, who missed his first five shots while picking up five fouls, hit his last six field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers. Kyrie Irving finished with...
Cavaliers forward Tyler Zeller will be sidelined for an indefinite period after having his appendix removed.
The second-year forward had an appendectomy Friday at the Cleveland Clinic. The team said Saturday that Zeller is recovering in the hospital and no timetable has been set for his return.
It's been a tough start to the season for Zeller. He injured his hip last week after...
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tyler Zeller didn’t play for the Cavaliers Friday night and many thought it was because of a hip flexor.
Cavaliers radio play-by-play announcer John Michael tweeted that Zeller had to have an emergency appendectomy on Friday to remove his appendix.
#Cavs Tyler Zeller was diagnosed w acute appendicitis yest & successfully had his appendix removed...
Cavaliers forward Tyler Zeller missed the team's Friday game against the Pistons because of a strained hip.
But the team announced Saturday Zeller had an emergency appendectomy after he was diagnosed with an acute appendicitis.
He will undergo additional recovery and re-evaluation and will be given a timetable then. Typical recovery time for an appendectomy is roughly a month...
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving visited an elementary school and held a question and answer session for the kids. One of the kids asked Kyrie if he would “leave us like LeBron did” and Kyrie simply said “no.” Personally, I wouldn’t put too much stock into something like this. What was he going to say, yes? Yeah right, that would be a PR disaster.
This is why Cleveland selected Anthony Bennett with the number one pick.
Bennett still isn’t in shape but that didn’t stop him from putting on a clinic in Orlando last night:
Imagine Anthony Bennett and Andrew Bynum as your frontcourt of the future.
ORLANDO, Fla. -- As far as matchups of the top two draft picks go, this wasn't like when the Orlando Magic had the good fortune two decades ago to land Shaquille O'Neal and watched him go head-to-head against Alonzo Mourning.
Victor Oladipo and Anthony Bennett were never matched up against each other Friday night. But through three quarters, it was evident who held the upper...
One of the players that we expect to break out this upcoming season has to be Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters and earlier tonight against the Orlando Magic, he made a pretty acrobatic lay-up.
Watch as Waiters hangs in the air and somehow gets the lay-up to bounce in off the glass:
