Fans at Chesapeake Energy Arena suffered a bit of a scare on New Year's Eve.Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook had to receive eight stitches above his right eye during the Thunder's 114-96 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday. The mishap occurred right before the half when Westbrook took an inadvertent elbow to the right eye while trying to grab a rebound. The bloodied Westbrook had to leave the game temporarily to receive medical attention. The All-Star would eventually return to finish with 24 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds in the home rout. So, there didn't appear to be any ill effects from the injury."Russ is tough," OKC coach Scott Brooks said. "Russell plays with a lot of emotion, a lot of toughness...He doesn't miss games. He doesn't miss practice."Amazingly, no foul was called and play continued as normal. I guess the old adage of "no blood, no foul" doesn't resonate with officials anymore.
