DENVER -- The Washington Wizards used an 18-4 run to start the fourth quarter to rally past the Denver Nuggets 112-108 on Friday night. Washington's Bradley Beal blocked Ty Lawson's lay-up attempt in the final seconds to deny Denver a chance to tie the game and force overtime. The Wizards won their fourth game in their past five and improved their road record to 2-16. They also claimed a sweet victory for Nene, the power forward they acquired from Denver for JaVale McGee last March in a trade. It was the first time Nene had played against the Nuggets. Nene spent his first nine full NBA seasons in Denver before the trade. Washington (8-29) trailed 87-80 entering the final period, but the Wizards began to click offensively, something they've struggled to do all season. The Wizards scored 67 points in the second half and finished the night 11-for-23 on 3s, a 47.8 percent clip. Washington shot 51.3 percent from the field. Reserve forward Kevin Seraphin scored 14 po...

In the off-season, JaVale McGee signed a $44 million 4-year contract with the Denver Nuggets that sent tongues wagging and misinformation spiraling. It was assumed his big contract was indicative of him starting, which isn’t true as a contract has little correlation with good or bad production, but market value to the franchise. It wouldn’t [...]The post George Karl on JaVale...

A few weeks ago, I fussed about the fact that choosing a game MVP for the Wizards was such a difficult task, considering how poorly the team played, both individually and as a group. This morning, I find myself fussing...
The Heat have signed forward Jarvis Varnado to a second 10-day contract, the team announced Sunday.
Varnado signed his first 10-day contract on Jan. 9 and has played in a total of 12 minutes over two games since that deal.
The Heat also announced Sunday that they have signed forwardcenter Chris Andersen to a 10-day contract.
Andersen, nicknamed "Birdman," has played...
Most NBA coaches want more out of their players on the court. Denver Nuggets coach George Karl wants JaVale McGee to play like Tim Duncan, arguably the greatest NBA power forward of all-time. How does Karl expect McGee to play like Duncan? The answer may surprise you:
“I think he tries to be spectacular,” Karl said of McGee. “Basketball is a game of possession after possession...
Emeka Okafor says Wizards Record doesn’t Reflect their Ability The Washington Wizards are just 8-29 at this point in the season. A record that by no means indicates that they’re a team to be reckoned with or have playoff aspirations. However, if you look closely things have begun to change in Washington with the return of point guard John Wall.
Winning 4 out of their last...
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Thursday that they signed guard Shelvin Mack to a 10-day contract. Mack averaged 20.5 points, 8.0 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.43 steals and shot 46.2 percent from the floor, 41.8 percent from 3-point range and 89.6 percent from the free-throw line in 14 games with the Maine Red Claws of the D-League this season. He ranks third in the D-League in...
Bradley Beal scored 23 points, John Wall blocked Ty Lawson's attempt for a tying layup in the final seconds and the Washington Wizards hung on to beat the Denver Nuggets, 112-108, on Friday night to snap an eight-game road losing streak.
Kevin Seraphin added 18 points and Wall and Trevor Ariza each added 14 points for the Wizards, who picked up just their second win away from...
“Probably simple and solid,” Karl said, when asked what he tells McGee most. “I think he tries to be spectacular. Basketball is a game of possession after possession of doing things the right way, doing your job and letting the spectacular come. I think JaVale tries to find the spectacular and forces the spectacular when if you just let Andre Miller and Ty [Lawson], let us...
Chris Andersen is getting another chance in the NBA.
The Miami Heat have signed Andersen to a 10-day contract. The Heat also brought forward-center Jarvis Varnado back for a second 10-day deal.
Andersen, whose nickname around the league is "Birdman," worked out for the Heat about two weeks ago and remained in the team's plans.
Andersen has averaged 5.4 points and...

The Washington Wizards upset the Denver Nuggets in Denver last night 112-108 to even their five-game road swing record at 1-1.
Denver is one of the toughest places for a visiting team to win and that alone should have been intimidating enough for a team that had lost 15 of its first 16 road games this year. But with wins this year over the Miami Heat and the...

No doubt the MVP for this game was Bradley Beal. The rookie is not playing like such and is showing confidence in his game. He had a career high in 3 point shooting, shooting 6-7. Beal and the Wizards seemed...
Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that the Wizards entered the Rudy Gay bidding battle, making what was reportedly a “good” offer to Memphis. Shortly thereafter, The Memphis Commercial Appeal published an article stating that Washington’s offer would have included Wizards rookie Bradley Beal.
Although the rumor of Beal being packaged was quickly extinguished by Beal’s...
