The school said in a statement Sunday from Smith's family that the former coach died at his home Saturday night. He was with his wife and five children.

The Lakers are out of the Carmelo Anthony race, right? Not according to this Lakers legend.
Big Game James Worthy was a part of the Lakers’ pitch to Melo last week and revealed a few details of the meeting to SLAM Magazine today, and for what it’s worth, Worthy thinks the purple and gold still have “a shot” at landing the 30-year-old All-Star.
“Carmelo has an open mind...
James Worthy was among the personnel present for the Los Angeles Lakers’ free agent meeting with Carmelo Anthony last week, and the three-time champion says his pitch to ‘Melo focused on the forward’s wife. “I told Carmelo, I said, I wish your wife were here because she’s more popular than you in Los Angeles. We’re […]
We all know the holy trinity of clutch steals in Celtics playoff history. Bird’s steal against Detroit in Game 5 of the 1987 Eastern Conference Finals. Gerald Herderson’s pick-off of James Worthy’s lazy pass in Game 2 of the 1984 NBA Finals. And of course, HAVLICEK STOLE THE BALL!!!!!!! We could debate which ranks first out of those three but no doubt they were all...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Jerel Worthy was missing from the Green Bay Packers' Thursday practice session as the defensive lineman dealt with a tragic family situation.
According to ABC 22 in Huber Heights, Ohio, a woman was shot in the head early Thursday morning and is in critical condition. That woman is reportedly Mae Worthy, the grandmother of Jerel Worthy. The report adds that Mae...
James Worthy was the last number one pick by the Los Angeles Lakers way back in 1982. That’s why it makes perfect sense for the organization to select Big Game James to represent the purple and gold at this year’s draft lottery.
The Lakers announced today that Worthy would be attending the lottery on May 20th and, as the team’s last number one pick, he’ll hopefully bring...
51 points for #Lakers in 3rd Q, a franchise record. #saywhatttt
— James Worthy (@James_Worthy42) March 26, 2014
This is a thing that happened. This Lakers team. THIS TEAM.
Los Angeles had 51 points in the third quarter in the team’s game against New York. Pretty incredible.
James Worthy loves a good old rant and last night was no exception.
After the Lakers had their worst loss (statistically) in franchise history against the Clippers last night, Worthy went off during the post-game show on Time Warner Cable: SportsNet.
And, as usual, the Lakers legend was critical of the team’s defense, so much so that he actually suggested that the team no longer...
Ouch, the Lakers legends are really going after the purple and gold this week.
Just days after Magic Johnson called out Mike D’Antoni and co. on national television – and then later apologized via Twitter – one of his ex-teammates ripped into the Laker Show once again.
“I haven’t used this word all year long, but this was disgusting,” James Worthy said on Time Warner...
