USC's Ciarelli named volleyball player of year
USC outside hitter Tony Ciarelli, who will lead the Trojans in the NCAA men's volleyball Final Four, was announced as the national player of the year by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.
Ciarelli, a 6-foot-6 senior from Huntington Beach, became the second consecutive USC player to win the award. Former Trojan Murphy Troy won in 2011.

Lakers agree to 1-year pact with F/C Murphy
The Los Angeles Lakers reached agreement on a one-year contract with forward/center Troy Murphy on Saturday.
Murphy saw limited playing time with three teams last season, averaging 3.1 points and 3.2 rebounds with the New Jersey Nets, Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics.
