The 2013 NFL regular season is right around the corner. With that being said, it's time to launch our team previews. FOXSports.com contributor Taylor Jones will answer important questions for every franchise. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 2012 Record: 7-9. Missed the playoffs What is the position battle to watch? The Saints have utilized a running back-by-committee approach dating back to the Deuce McAllister days and while that won't necessarily change this season, it will be interesting to see if one of the three can actually separate themselves as the lead dog. Mark Ingram was drafted 28th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft to do just that, but he has yet to live up to his hype and has struggled to unseat Pierre Thomas as the feature back of this offense. Darren Sproles, entering his third season with the Saints, averaged nearly seven yards per carry in 2011, but without Sean Payton calling the plays, Sproles' touches were cut in half in 2012. Sproles will never grow into a 20...

The New Orleans Saints have quite a few changes for 2013, and one rookie in particular, cornerback Rod Sweeting is making himself known to another newbie to the team, secondary coach Wesley McGriff. "It's just like anything else, coming into a new environment, some guys don't start as fast, but (Sweeting) is doing a tremendous job since OTAs and minicamps and coming...

Saturday morning, more than five thousand Saints fans wrapped around the team's practice facility, eagerly waiting in line to pack the practice field stands for the Black and Gold's scrimmage. Saturday evening, it was Sean Payton's turn to do the cheering in Canton, Ohio. He flew there directly from the Saints scrimmage in order to support his mentor, Bill Parcells...

Saints fan tackled by cops after getting too close at training camp

New Orleans Saints fan David Mobley jumped a barricade separating the public from Saints players during a Friday practice. That’s as far as he got. A police officer with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office promptly tackled the 59-year-old, who was arrested on charges of remaining after forbidden, resisting arrest and battery of a police officer, reports the Hattiesburg American...

Brees amazed by reaction to tip

Drew Brees says he's amazed his $3 tip on a $74 takeout order last month has become a talking point on national television and the Internet. The quarterback was in the locker room at Saints headquarters Thursday morning when he noticed a discussion on a network morning show about tipping on takeout orders, referencing a photograph of his takeout receipt that was circulated online...

Saints' new defense shine during scrimmage

The defense run by new coordinator Rob Ryan is showing early promise for the New Orleans Saints, compiling five sacks and three turnovers during a scrimmage on Saturday. Outside linebacker Junior Galette had two sacks, one each against Drew Brees and Luke McCown. Veteran cornerback Chris Carr, who chose during free agency to rejoin Ryan, his former coordinator in Oakland, made an...

Saints' Lance Moore far from 'old man' on heels of best season: notebook

Saints receiver Lance Moore would prefer not to be called the old man on the team. But at 29 he's already earning that distinction. "I don't really like it" he joked. "I don't want Sean (Payton) to come up to me and call me one of the old guys. "He has done it a couple times already during camp and I don't want to get that label." But...

Saints eager to test running game in scrimmage

The New Orleans Saints are about to get a better sense of whether all their talk about improving their running game is amounting to much on the field. After eight days of training camp in which contact was limited, the Saints line up for a scrimmage on Saturday in which linemen such as All-Pro guard Jahri Evans will try to blow open holes at full force for running backs Mark Ingram...

Saints Nation: Five Things to Look for in Black & Gold Scrimmage

Today the Saints will experience the "Black and Gold scrimmage", which is of course the yearly traditional inter squad simulated game during training camp. The best part of this action is it will really put the lines to the test, as they get a real chance to collide with pads, and it will put live tackling to the test. The team has gotten a little taste of that, but to...

Female NFL official-in-training at Saints camp

A woman who could become the NFL's first female official is training at New Orleans Saints training camp this week. Sarah Thomas, who lives near Jackson, Miss., is a former college basketball player who started officiating high school games at age 23 and says she never dreamed then that she could become a candidate to officiate NFL games. Now 40-years old and with three children...

Tipping Point: Get off Drew Brees’ Back About the Take-Out Tip

Follow @HookTSB   I can’t believe this is still a thing, or was even a thing in the first place, but Drew Brees caught some flack yesterday for leaving a $3 tip on a $74 bill about a month ago.  Some ass-hat who works at a the  Del Mar Rendezvous Chinese fusion restaurant in California snapped a picture of the receipt and posted it on Reddit, but failed to mention the receipt...

Drew Brees Tip-Gate Update

Rest-assured, Saints fans. Everything we always thought we knew about Drew Brees turns out to be totally true. There was a mini-uproar this week when a waitress claimed Brees stiffed her on a tip for a $75 bill. A copy of the receipt was posted on the website, “The Dirty.” Turns out, it was only part of the story. The bill was actually for a takeout order, which means even...

Saints Nation: Black and Gold Scrimmage Thoughts

The interesting take from the annual black and gold scrimmage is how the defense performed overall. There was a sense of a "here we go again" as the 1st team offense marched down the field with ease on the 2nd team defense for an opening drive touchdown, but from there out it was pretty much all about the defense. Led by Junior Galette, the defense made numerous plays and...

Kevin Colbert Says Team Couldn’t Fit CB Keenan Lewis Into Their Structure

During the offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a big decision to make as to whether or not to re-sign cornerback Keenan Lewis, who was an unrestricted free agent following the 2012 season. They chose against doing so and Lewis wound up signing a five-year, $25.5 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. Now that the [...] Kevin Colbert Says Team Couldn’t Fit CB Keenan Lewis...

All Of The Arguing About Drew Brees’ $3 Tip Is Just Plain Stupid

(via Getty Image)Between Aaron Hernandez’s murder charges, Riley Cooper’s open invitation for safeties to decapitate him and even Johnny Manziel supposedly lowering his draft stock for being a typical college bro, I thought that the NFL’s writers who don’t like doing actual reporting on teams and players and simply prefer sticking to moral brow-beating and soap box finger...
