Next up on our trip around the Tennessee Titans position by position as we approach the 2013 regular season is a look at the offensive tackle. As I noted in the offseason look, you can basically write tackle names in pen for another year. Barring injury, Michael Roos will be the starting left tackle for the eighth consecutive season. I named him the Titans' offensive MVP last season, admittedly a choice as much by default as anything else. He missed his first career game last year, though due to an appendectomy I think you can fairly state is extraordinarily unlikely to recur. His back flared up during OTAs, but he's back and fully participating in training camp, so I'm not worried. A smooth and generally efficient pass blocker who has never been and will never be a people-mover in the run game, he was among the league's better left tackles again in 2012, and while he probably won't ever rank in the top five again should be an extremely reliable presence once...

Titans get O-line pieces together at the right time

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Finally, Titans offensive line coach Bruce Matthews has his dance card filled. For the first time this season, the Titans have tackle Michael Roos and guard Andy Levitre playing together on the left side. Likewise on the right, as tackle David Stewart and guard Chance Warmack are busy trying to get their steps down for the first time together. "There is no...

Fitzpatrick ready to swallow his pride with Titans

Ryan Fitzpatrick is no longer with the Buffalo Bills, but that doesn’t stop him from talking to the guys in Buffalo and reminiscing on what could have been. Fitzpatrick was signed by the Tennessee Titans to replace back up Matt Hasselbeck and serve as a second option to third-year quarterback Jake Locker. Ultimately, it’s a make or break year for Jake Locker. He’s been noted...

Titans LB McCarthy will miss week with hamstring

Colin McCarthy will miss at least a week after hurting his right hamstring, and coach Mike Munchak says the middle linebacker will not play in Tennessee's preseason opener Thursday against Washington. McCarthy practiced with the first-team defense Wednesday for the first time this year, but he was out Thursday and had an MRI exam. Munchak said Friday that it's frustrating...

Titans look to S Bernard Pollard for leadership

Bernard Pollard remembers the moment well. Tennessee and Chris Johnson were running all over his Kansas City Chiefs in October 2008, and he finally had it with Titans right tackle David Stewart. So both men put up their fists, ready to start swinging away. A photographer caught them in that moment, and Stewart put a copy of the photo in his locker as a keepsake of the near brawl...

2013 Tennessee Titans preseason positional analysis: TE

After covering the quarterbacks, running backs, fullbacks, and wide receivers, we now reach our last "skill positions" stop on our tour of the Tennessee Titans as we approach the start of the 2013 regular season, the tight ends. Perhaps the most interesting imponderable of the 2013 Tennessee Titans offseason came when Jared Cook fought the franchise tag with an eye...

Titans trying to find few extra seconds on defense

NFL offenses are moving faster and faster, speeding up the tempo to take advantage of defenses. So the Tennessee Titans are trying to scratch out a precious few extra seconds. They are practicing without the player-coach helmet communication system during training camp. ''That's just part of the process of getting better at what we're going to see a lot during the...

Titans' Britt feels healthy like it's 2011 again

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By TERESA M. WALKER AP Sports Writer Kenny Britt feels like it's 2011 all over again, and the Tennessee Titans' receiver is leaping for catches and looking like the player who dominated defenders catching lots of balls that season. ''I'm feeling back to my old self, not weighing 230 that I was last year lifting weights,'' Britt...

Titans 2013 training camp, 8/02

In Friday's trip to training camp, I decided to go to the second field where the o-line and d-line have their areas for positional work. As it turned out, the team spent nearly 45 minutes split up into their position groups, much longer than I can ever remember the Titans doing before, and I was able to get some pictures of both lines.   The d-linemen were split...

NFL Player Delanie Walker Speaks Out About Drunk Driving

By MADD “So I don’t drive drunk…But what do I do about my friends who do?” The question came at the NFL’s Rookie Symposium from a player ready to enter the NFL.  But what was more interesting was to whom he was asking the question. They seem like an odd couple– Delanie Walker, an eighth-year tight end now for the Tennessee Titans, and Nina Walker, a national board member...
