After grabbing headlines for its dominant performance in 2011, the 49ers defense is getting attention for all the wrong reasons in the offseason. Niners defensive tackle Ray McDonald was arrested around 2 a.m. Wednesday...

Ray McDonald arrested on warrant

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested in California Wednesday on an outstanding warrant stemming from his 2010 arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. McDonald, 27, was taken into custody after police stopped him for a traffic violation in Sunnyvale, about 40 miles south of San Francisco, at around 2:00am local time, the San Jose Mercury News reported...

49ers’ Ray McDonald arrested

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald was arrested Wednesday morning in Sunnyvale, Calif. for an outstanding warrant, stemming from his 2010 arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence in San Mateo County. Colin Kaepernick determined to become the 49ers starter

Rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick was drafted in 2011 by the San Francisco 49ers and head coach Jim Harbuagh to become a potential starter down the road. But after a great season by Alex Smith, no one is sure when Kaepernick will get on the field and really show what he can do.  Especially since Harbaugh has indicated that he wants Smith back. During a question and answer on RGJ...

49ers haven’t started contract talks with Alex Smith

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco 49ers haven’t started any contract talks with quarterback Alex Smith.  Head coach Jim Harbaugh has confirmed that he wants to bring Smith back for next season. Harbaugh may want to re-sign Smith, but if a team comes in and makes Smith an offer that he can’t refuse and the 49ers won’t match, he might be headed elsewhere.

49ers wideout Joshua Morgan eager to get back

San Francisco 49ers wideout Joshua Morgan is running, even sprinting, again on his surgically repaired right leg that limited him to only five games in 2011 for the NFC West champions. Morgan broke a bone in his lower leg Oct. 9 against Tampa Bay and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Leaving team headquarters Thursday, he declared, ''I'm back!'' while...

Kaepernick expects “fair shot” to win starting job over Smith

Conventional wisdom last offseason said that it was only a matter of time before Colin Kaepernick started games for the San Francisco 49ers. Conventional wisdom did not expect the 49ers to make the NFC Championship game with Alex Smith starting every game. Kaepernick spent the year on the bench, which probably wasn’t a bad thing for…

Goldson would be “shocked” if he left San Francisco

Dashon Goldson had to settle for a low-cost, one-year deal to stay in San Francisco last year after previously turning down long-term contract offers. He should get a better deal this year. And he expects that deal to come from the 49ers. Goldson told 95.7 via the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that he would be “shocked”…

So long, “Mount Pain”

Former 49ers coach Mike Singletary was into giving bombastic speeches. He like old school drills like the “Nutcracker.” His penchant for bold gestures was perhaps best symbolized by “Mt. Pain.” Singletary built a hill in 2009 at the 49ers practice facility for players to run up. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee says Jim Harbaugh…

49ers' Trent Baalke gets 3-year contract extension

Niners CEO Jed York drew criticism last year for hiring in-house candidate Trent Baalke as general manager after what appeared to be a less-than-exhaustive search. Thirteen months later, there was no public carping...

49ers, Giants play to a draw in charity event

As Harris Barton 's opening drive hooked low and left of the fairway - the third straight unimpressive tee shot by the 49ers - head coach Jim Harbaugh turned to his teammates and said, " The Giants are feeling awfully...
