Found February 25, 2013 on Minus Twenty-Two:
According to the Sac Bee’s Matt Barrows, the 49ers, contrary to media reports, still haven’t agreed to trade Alex Smith but are actively working to move the quarterback: The 49ers are talking to teams about a trade for Alex Smith but currently do not have a deal in place, league sources said Sunday and Monday. This would be in direct contrast to reports over the weekend indicating that the Niners have already “effectively” reached a deal to trade Smith to an unnamed suitor. Smith and the Niners parting ways has seemed inevitable ever since Colin Kaepernick completed the coup d’etat of the 49ers huddle. Severing ties with Smith would save the Niners $8.5 million in 2013. On Sunday it appeared the inevitable was finally about to happen. But now with this latest report, it looks like we’ll just have to wait until March 12—when trades can first become official—to find out Smith’s fate. [via Sac Bee]
