With David Akers struggling the San Francisco 49ers worked out a pair of free agent kickers this week. Akers , a 14 year veteran, is just 19-of-27 on field goal attempts this season. Nate Kaeding and Billy Cundiff both worked out for the 49ers. While Kaeding is the more accomplished kicker of the two he also has had a long history of injuries. Dealing with a groin strain that cost him much of the season, Kaeding was placed on injured reserve and then released by San Diego in late October after seven years with the club. Cundiff most recently played for the Washington Redskins. He was 7-of-12 this season before being released at the beginning of October.
