Getting the Call from the Jacksonville Jaguars

Yesterday my NFL dream, at least the start of it, became a reality when the Jacksonville Jaguars called and selected me in the 5th round. I can't tell you how excited I am.

When the day started I had no idea how it would turn out. I had gotten a call Thursday or Friday from the linebacker coach in Atlanta asking me about positions I played and where I would fit into their scheme. When they drafted Curtis Lofton from Oklahoma and Robert James from ASU I knew that wasn't happening. I went for about a 45 minute run on this path near my mom's house. They just moved so the area is new to me. I did take my cell phone with me just in case. After my run I just hung out on the couch and had my mom and her boyfriend, my grand parents, my cousin and 3 or 4 of my high school friends with me.

At about 11:30 things got interesting. The Cowboys traded spots with Jacksonville then my phone rang and it was one of the coaches at Jacksonville. I had not spoken to them since my Pro Day workout. He asked me if I was healthy and what I had been doing since Pro Day and if I was ready to play. I told him absolutely! he then told me he'd call me back. When I hung up and looked at the TV I noticed that Jacksonville didn't pick for another six picks. Talk about leaving me biting my nails. I was chewing on those for the next 30 minutes. Then the phone rang, close to 12, and it was Coach Del Rio and he said "congratulations on becoming a Jacksonville Jaguar." Then I saw my name flashing on the screen. It was so exciting. I could hear the Jacksonville coaches and staff in the background on the phone cheering. I am just so happy, but it still hasn't really hit me yet. I'm still a college student, going to class today and I'm also going to an NFL team.

I do know that I am going to go in there and learn the defense and contribute on every special team and do everything that is asked of me. I am going to give them everything I have. This is a dream come true. I know that I still have to work and compete to make the team, but even getting to this point is part of the dream.

They had 11 wins and we had 11 wins last year. I am going from one great team to another great team. They are such a tough, physical, agressive defense. You can just see it watching them on NFL Network how much passion they have to play defense. I want to be a part of that kind of team. Coach Del Rio played that way. I have watched a lot of footage of him in NFL Network when he played for Minnesota and of course he did it at USC too. I have that passion, that motor and the drive to make sure the guy with the ball feels me when I get there. I love the hunt.

I set this goal so long ago and here I am living it. I am just so blessed to get to this point. Now I can't wait to get to Jacksonville!

CONGRATS!!!!!

Thank you

GOOD LUCK Bud...

That is awesome, Jacksonville is a great team. Now the team NE struggles to beat every year will have to struggle even harder!

Thomas--congrats on getting picked by the Jags. As a member of the Yardbarker team and also a USC alum, I'm really psyched for you. The Jags are also my favorite team in the AFC (I'm a Philly boy, so I bleed Eagles green). By the way, when you came by the office last week, you had one of the firmest handshakes I ever felt in my life. I can't imagine what it'd be like to get hit by you! Go get the Pats this year.

Thank you very much for all of the support and hard work you do for the yard.

Good luck Thomas. Don't forget to stop by the yard and say hi.

alright...a jaguar on yardbarker!

get ready to play in Duval-prepare to get hit!

DDDDDDDuuuuuuuvvvvvvvaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllll

I knew we were going to get a running back...Just didn't know when...You should have a shot at making the team....Terry is who you will be fighting for the spot...good player aswell...Welcome to Jacksonville.....Make sure your chin-strap is tight....And remember we haze our rookies here...> Meatwad from Jags.Message board

I have watched the D play before. They are such an awesome D. Fast, Physical and smart. I can not wait to get into mini camp and learn the system. I have seen Inside Training camp with the Jags. I know they are going to Haze me. Any good ideas to stay out of the cold tub? lol

Welcome to the Jaguars Thomas! I can't wait to get to see you in action at training camp. I'm glad that a Jaguar is now in the yard. It's even cooler that you and one of your college teammates Chauncey Washington are on the same team. Congrats on getting drafted and stay healthy! I'll be cheering you on this season.

Yes I am excited to be playing with Chauncey! It will be comforting to have a trojan in the locker room. I have to have someone on my side when MJD and Mercedes Lewis are ragging on me about USC vs. UCLA. hahaha

Well if it gets out of hand you always have the head coach on your side as well.

congrats man, go get it man. Keep us updated on progress. And all the cool little things. First big nfl purchase, Good luck man !! LOL still in class

Well I def will keep the yard posted on whats going on. And as far as my purchase will be a full tank of gas! haha. have you seen the gas prices now? I am going to save all of my money and not change my living habits.

Damn....Scratch the Terry spot.....I was rolling on another thread when I responded....Meatwad fits...

Congrats, Thomas! Jacksonville got themselves a steal. Thanks again for stopping in the office last week and can't wait to see what you can do in a Jaguars uniform.

Thanks for all the work you do for the yard and having me in the office.

Thank you so very much

amazing work man! what a great achievement =) you definitely are up for the position. It was good meeting you last week, you definitely are someone any team would love to have. Goodluck!!

Congrats "Hitman", it couldn't happen to a better Trojan!

Thank you for the support! I am excited!

T-Will in Jacksonville with Mr. 4.35! I sat behind your agent at the Draft, Thomas. I didn't recognize him until he turned around after you were drafted and said, "You must be with Yardbarker." Needless to say, but I got pretty rowdy and loud when they called your name. Your new head coach used to be the LB coach in Baltimore, and he worked with the best: Ray Lewis. You'll be able to learn a lot from JDR. You're joining a great defense, Thomas. Congratulations. Your hard work has paid off... now keep working hard!

Thanks Dewey!

I am so proud of all of your Accomplishments !! You are an inspiration to all !!!
