Quarterback Matthew Stafford isn't the only rookie returning to the Lions' lineup today against St. Louis. Defensive tackle Sammie Hill is returning from an ankle injury, too.
"I think getting Sammie Hill back is really big," defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said. "Out of everybody that was out - that's not being disrespectful to guys like Jason Hunter or Dewayne White - we missed the big guy inside."
Hill, listed at 6-foot-4, 329 pounds, missed the past three games. Coach Jim Schwartz said when the coaches evaluated film over the bye week, they noticed when he was in there and when he wasn't.
"His size makes a difference for us," coach Jim Schwartz said. "We talked about getting bigger, and Sammie was a big part of that. He's a big wide body in there. I think we realize a little bit how much we missed him, and it speaks well for him."
