When facing up against someone in your fantasy football league this season, hope they do not have a lot of players from the Atlanta Falcons. This could be the year that Matt Ryan emerges as a top-five quarterback, supported by multiple weapons that will make Atlanta one of the best offenses in the league.

Sports Illustrated has already anointed Ryan as the frontrunner for the MVP in fantasy football this season, and for good reason. With a myriad of options at wide receiver, a viable tight end in Tony Gonzalez, and a depleted running game as Michael Turner enters his 30s, Atlanta should be throwing the ball more often than not.
ESPN ranks Ryan as the eleventh best quarterback in the league, projecting the Atlanta gunslinger to rack up 246 points this season, a 14 point drop from the 260 he put on the board last season. While he hasn’t had a breakout season yet, Ryan has the tools around him and skill set to be a top-five scorer in the league this year. With a new offensive coordinator stepping in, Ryan might have more of a chance to shine.
Speaking of those wide receivers, Atlanta has a one-two punch that stacks up against any duo in the league: Roddy White and Julio Jones. ESPN projects White as the fourth best receiver and Jones in the eleventh spot, making Atlanta one of only two teams (New York Giants) to have two wide receivers projected in the top-15. With Turner seeing 30 fewer carries than the year before last season, White and Jones should be targeted more over the course of the season.
White not need any more targets however, as he is already the most targeted wide receiver in the league. That does come with a territory though, as White lead the league with 14 drops, which could come back to bite you in a close week. Still, White has been a stud in fantasy over the past couple of seasons, and with a maturing Matt Ryan, he should continue his standout play.
The breakout player of the season could be Jones, who is entering his second season in the league. After the Falcons gave up pretty much their entire draft to select the wide out in the 2011 draft Jones took a few weeks to get in the swing of things. The Alabama product only broke into double digits twice in the first half of the season and was shutout in two weeks. After the Falcons bye week though, Jones had his breakout game scoring 28 points. After an injury halted his production for three weeks Jones picked up where he left off, scoring at least fourteen points over the final four weeks.
With another offseason to get familiar with Ryan and his first season under his belt, Jones has the ability to become an elite wide receiver this year. While White will take away some of his targets and touchdowns, Jones will get his fair share of touches, which can be very dangerous if your playing an opponent lucky enough to have Jones on their fantasy team.
In addition to the two premium wide receivers, Ryan will have Tony Gonzalez at his disposal. The future Hall of Famer has shown no signs of aging lately, ranking among the top tight ends in the NFL with 123 points in ESPN leagues last year. If Gonzalzez continues his production and the wide receivers performs as they are supposed to, Ryan will have no problem picking apart defenses every Sunday.
If your opponent has two members of this vaunted offense, you might just want to mark down that week as a loss right now.
