PLAYERS: E.J. Manuel
TEAMS: Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone told Sirius XM NFL Radio that when they worked out E.J. Manuel prior to the draft, he was pretty impressive despite some bad weather. BuffaloBills.com has the story. When the Bills went to work out EJ Manuel privately the weather was not cooperative. There were thunderstorms and it was windy in Tallahassee on the day the quarterback was performing, and Manuel performed very well. Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Manuel’s performance solidified what they felt he could do in inclement weather. Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Marrone said knowing what the weather can be like in Buffalo, especially come playoff time in January, their research indicated they needed a strong-armed quarterback that could handle poor or wet weather conditions. “Going into it as far as what we were putting down that was one of the things as far as criteria for playing up here,” Marrone admitted. “I remember when I first got the job here in Buffalo, and I had been up here and played up here before, and I got out of the car in January and the wind I was like, ‘Wow.’ I never realized how windy it was that time of the year. “We started talking about the quarterbacks, and we went back and researched all the teams that played in the Northeast in the bad weather and all the success they had with quarterbacks and the common traits that they had. They were big and had big hands and were able to throw the ball in tough weather and that’s what we were looking at.” The Bills have a reason to be concerned about their quarterback being able to play in bad weather.  Buffalo is one of the coldest and harshest places to play in the dead of winter.       Need NFL Tickets?

Bills explain key to Manuel pick

Why did the Buffalo Bills decide to use a first-round pick on EJ Manuel? What did they like about him? The team explained all that.

One of the Reasons Buffalo Chose EJ Manuel Over Geno Smith

Maybe Nolan Norwacki was on to something. According to one league executive in a Jason Cole story, Smith ” doesn’t have much presence, not much of a leader.” Multiple others said that Smith spent most of his free time during team visits on his cell phone, rather than doing the things usually expected on a job interview- acting interested, asking questions, talking to folks...

E.J. Manuel Provides Bright Future For Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills may have taken the 2013 NFL Draft by storm when they selected QB E.J. Manuel with the No. 16 overall pick, but the decision didn’t actually shock everyone. While Manuel may be a bit inconsistent and could use a little time to develop at the next level, he has all of the tools for success.  The physically-imposing product out of Florida State completed...

Buffalo Bills Select ILB Kiko Alonso in Second Round

2.14 Buffalo Bills Kiko Alonso, ILB, Oregon (6-3, 238) Kiko has a chance to start right away for a Buffalo team that ranked terribly against the run in 2012. They were dead last in yards before contact and are in desperate need of inside strength. Alonso could be a big part of the rebuilding of this defense. He can play in 3-4 or 4-3 packages and is fast enough to drop into coverage...

A tale of two seasons: Bills must find consistency in 2013

The Bills drafted E.J. Manuel with the 16th pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.  He has the height and athletic ability needed for a NFL quarterback.  His superior arm strength and quick release make him ideal for the weather conditions that an area like Buffalo present to a quarterback.  However, the biggest need at both quarterback and in Buffalo is consistency.  Buffalo fans have...

Universal Pictures Will Pay Buffalo Bills Fans to Show Up For a Game

The Buffallo Bills have not seen the right side of a winning record in some time yet many of their faithful fans show up each and every week to their home games (to tailgate if nothing else). After the draft the hope is probably as high in upstate New York as it has been since the Jim Kelly days so attendance should be good. However, just to be on the safe side Universal Pictures...

E.J. Manuel Excited About How He fits In Bills Offense

Chip Kelly is deemed the innovator of the sped up, high tempo offense that is trending NFL wide right now.  Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone utilizes his own version of uptempo offense, and it’s mainly responsible for getting him the head job in Buffalo. Marrone used the #16th pick in NFL Draft on Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel, because he needed someone to drive the...

2013 NFL Draft: Grading The Buffalo Bills

1)  QB EJ Manuel (Florida State)Manuel has a prototypical body and he also has great speed clocking in 4.65 on his 40 yard dash.  Word has it the Bills are incorporating the spread option offense into their offensive playbooks.  Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson aren't likely to produce in the Bills new system, and I can't imagine either starting once the pre-season has...

2013 NFL Draft Team Grades: Buffalo Bills

First Round: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State The biggest reason Buffalo is getting a good grade for this is because they were able to trade down to get another second and third round pick, which is amazing value. I'm really shocked that Buffalo took Manuel over Nassib, who had been so tightly connected to them for weeks. I think Manuel has the highest upside of any...

Agent: Corey McIntyre's stint with Bills has run its course

Despite some optimism about his return, it looks like fullback Corey McIntyre's days in Buffalo are over.Brett Tessler, McIntyre's agent, told Tim Graham of the Buffalo News Tuesday that the five-year relationship between his client and the Bills looks to be kaput."It seems pretty obvious that it's no longer the right fit for either side," Tessler said....

Rookie Props

The Buffalo Bills had two priorities in last week’s NFL Draft. First, draft a quarterback of the future. Second, acquire playmakers. In my humble opinion, they knocked the ball out of the park. The potential talent that the Bills acquired on this draft is exciting and has been and will continue to be judged over and over. However, it can’t be properly judged for a few...

2013 NFL Draft Quarterback Fantasy Impact

2013 NFL Draft Fantasy Impact: Quarterbacks The last few years we have been spoiled by the rookie quarterback. The new norm for fantasy as well as the NFL, is for a rookie quarterback to walk into a starting job and be productive. This isn’t always the case and I don’t think the same can be said for too many of the quarterbacks that were in this year’s draft class. That said...
