The first week of OTAs are over at One Bills Drive and Buffalo has plenty to be happy about. The team had strong participation from their veterans and overall the team had plenty of highlights. Before issuing out Week One OTA MVP, let’s take a look at today’s events.
Kevin Kolb led the quarterback rotation on Wednesday, followed by E.J. Manuel and Tarvaris Jackson. Nothing should be read into this as Buffalo has said they’ll be rotating quarterbacks.
Manuel was removed from the rotation the second time through, but did return during the third rotation. When the Bills did 11-on-11 work, Manuel did not receive any snaps.
Of the three quarterbacks, Tarvaris Jackson was the most impressive on Wednesday. Jackson found wide receiver T.J. Graham for a touchdown pass and made plays with his feet. Many, including myself, considered Jackson an afterthought in the quarterback competition but through the OTAs he has been the most impressive quarterback.
If Jackson continues to play well, he may be the quarterback competing with E.J. Manuel for the starting job.
The defense made many plays at Wednesday’s practice. The Bills’ 2012 first round pick Stephon Gilmore was the best defender on the field as he prevented two touchdowns. The first pass breakup came on a Kevin Kolb pass intended for Chris Hogan. Gilmore got a hand on the pass and was able to knock it away. Later, Gilmore ripped what should have been a touchdown pass away from T.J. Graham.
Jonathan Meeks and Vernon Kearney also had pass breakups.
In terms of sacks, second year cornerback Ron Brooks was credited with a sack on Kolb. Jarron Gilbert also registered a sack during the practice.
The only interception was made by Da’Norris Searcy on a pass intended for Lee Smith.
The MVP of the three day OTAs goes to T.J. Graham. In 2012, Graham did not have the greatest of rookie seasons, but the quarterback play didn’t help his case.
During OTAs Graham was Buffalo’s most consistent player on the field. He made many big catches and showed a willingness to run across the field. Hopefully Graham carries this momentum with him throughout the off-season. If utilized correctly, Graham could be another playmaker in Buffalo’s arsenal.

According to BuffaloBills.com, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been taking the first-team reps with the offense.
Bills head coach Doug Marrone said from the outset that the quarterback rotation would likely change daily until one signal caller began to take hold of the job. On Monday Tarvaris Jackson was the first quarterback through the rotation during the team period.
Contrary to popular opinion, the Buffalo Bills may actually be poised to finally end the league’s longest playoff drought (1999-present) in 2013. NFL.com Columnist Adam Schein revealed an interesting piece before the 2013 NFL Draft suggesting the club could even become the NFL’s version of FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast University) in the upcoming season. In addition to bolstering...

With the departure of Buddy Nix, who'll stay with the team as a consultant, assistant GM Doug Whaley is moving up into the GM role, reports CBSSports' Jason La Canfora.
Whaley, who learned the ropes back in Pittsburgh under GM Kevin Colbert, was being groomed in Buffalo as Nix's successfor. Many fans were unhappy with Nix's decisions throughout the years and his...
Bills QB Tarvaris Jackson received the first snaps during the team’s first day of OTAs Monday, according to BuffaloBills.com.
Kevin Kolb was the second man in the team’s rotation with first-round pick E.J. Manuel third.
It’s a little surprising given that Jackson seemed likely to be the team’s No. 3 quarterback after they added both Kolb and Manuel in recent months....
Day two of Buffalo Bills OTAs saw another wide receiver as its top player. On Tuesday, second year wideout T.J. Graham had the best performance. The wide receiver corps are a bit thin currently with many of the rookies having to sit out until their respective graduations and Stevie Johnson still battling an injury.
Graham pulled in “almost half a dozen receptions” according to...
The Buffalo Bills promoted Doug Whaley to take over as general manager, replacing Buddy Nix who stepped down earlier this week.
The team announced the move on Thursday and it was expected. In signing Whaley to a long-term contract extension in February, the Bills indicated it was a move that cleared the way for a smooth transition for him to succeed Nix, who stepped down on Monday...
Since it’s impossible to earn a ring on the field as a Buffalo Bill, Mario Williams is going to court.
The highest-priced free agent defensive end in NFL history will go to a hearing Friday in Houston after suing his ex-fiancee for the $785,000 engagement ring he proposed to her with. The ex in question, Erin Marzouki, countered Williams’ claim with a suit of her own on Monday...
It was no surprise, but the Buffalo Bills named Doug Whaley as General Manager at a press conference on Thursday. Whaley became the team’s 12th general manager.
While everyone knew that Whaley was next in line to be GM, the Bills gave Buddy Nix “his day in the sun” so to speak. After stepping down as GM on Monday, the Bills allowed Nix to get his time in the limelight. Nix...
EJ Manuel, Buffalo Bills Round 1, Pick 16 – Florida State Though Buffalo signed Kevin Kolb to a two-year, $13 million contract at the beginning of April, there was speculation that they might use their first-round pick on a quarterback. Today marks the final change for the Buffalo Bills, trying to leave behind another unsuccessful regime, with Buddy Nix, the Bill’s GM for the last three years stepping down. It is expected that Assistant GM Doug Whaley will take over, and with the hiring of Doug Marrone, and drafting of E.J. Manuel, there is a new culture in Buffalo. However, the Bills have a long way...
