Make room for Megatron, Jerry.

During Saturday's 31-18 loss to the Falcons, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson set the all-time single season receiving yards record, previously held by former Niners great Jerry Rice (1,848).

Johnson entered the night needing 182 yards to best the mark, which had stood since 1995.

In the fourth quarter, on Detroit's final possession, Johnson reeled in a 26-yard reception, rewriting the record book in front of a raucous Ford Field crowd. He finished with 11 catches for a staggering 225 yards.

It capped off an utterly historic outing for the 27-year-old, who broke the franchise receiving record, set an NFL record (eight-straight 100-yard games), and tied Michael Irvin's record for most 100-yard receiving games in a season (11).

From the outset, it was evident Johnson wasn't about to wait until Week 17. He piled up 117 yards in the first half alone, relentlessly abusing the Falcons' single man coverage.

Handing the situation with class, Rice said he's proud to pass the figurative torch to Johnson.

"If anyone were to break it, I'd prefer it be Megatron," he said. "Records are meant to be broken."
