KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Tony Moeaki's career in Kansas City has apparently come to an end.The former third-round pick who dazzled during his rookie season but couldn't stay on the field because of injuries was fittingly waived as an injured player on Saturday, part of a series of moves that the Chiefs used to reach the 53-man roster limit by the NFL's deadline.Moeaki fractured his shoulder in a preseason game against Pittsburgh. He'll end up on injured reserve along with offensive lineman Ricky Henry, who ruptured his bicep Thursday night against Green Bay, if Moeaki passes through waivers without being claimed."Well Chiefs Kingdom, it's been a pleasure," Moeaki tweeted. "Was starting to feel back to form. Bad timing for an inj. However...Challenge accepted."Moeaki has struggled with knee and shoulder injuries throughout his career. The Chiefs had to clear 22 players to reach the roster maximum, which meant cutting 20 others by the deadline. Chiefs cut 22 players to reach 53 man limit

The Chiefs have released 22 players to get down to the 53 man limit via their website.

The three biggest takeaways from the Chiefs' weekend moves

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Change is ... good, right? If you're keeping score (and we hope you're doing it in pencil), of the 53 players who constitute the Kansas City Chiefs' active roster, almost exactly half -- 26 of them -- weren't a part of last fall's 2-14 dumpster fire. That's some kind of crazy turnover, even by NFL standards. Outside linebackerspecial teams...

Chiefs rookie Bray turns head in preseason finale

Tyler Bray knows that he's probably not going to get a whole lot of snaps in a game the rest of the year. It comes with the territory of being the third-string quarterback. That's why he made the most of the ones he got Thursday night. The rookie out of Tennessee threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Chiefs to a 30-8 victory over the Green Bay Packers...

Chiefs' new brain trust putting stamp on roster

The Kansas City Chiefs hope they've finally assembled the right 53. That was the phrase that former general manager Scott Pioli used to describe his ideal roster, but he never really came close to achieving it. In fact, his pursuit of the right 53 ended with a 2-14 record last year. The Chiefs have overhauled that roster this year under new GM John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid...

Chiefs cut injured TE Tony Moeaki

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki has battled injuries throughout his short career. He was poised to enter the 2013 season healthy, but he recently suffered a fractured shoulder. As a result, he’s out indefinitely, and the Chiefs weren’t willing to be patient with the former third-round pick. Moeaki sent out his farewell via Twitter, and hours later the Chiefs made the...

Cowboys get LB Jones from Chiefs for draft pick

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired linebacker Edgar Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs for an undisclosed draft pick. The Cowboys created room for Jones on their 53-man roster by putting offensive lineman Nate Livings on season-ending injured reserve Saturday. Jones has played 57 games over six seasons with the Chiefs and Baltimore. He has been primarily a special teams player, with...

Tight ends are a huge part of Chiefs offense, so where the heck are the healthy ones?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Fun fact: Of Alex Smith's 81 career passing touchdowns, 32 of them, or 38.2 percent, landed in the hands of a tight end. Vernon Davis had a lot to do with that -- 30 of those 32 catches, to be exact -- but the point stands. Like his quarterback, new Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid is a tight end freak, too: When Reid helped coordinate Mike Holmgren'...

Out with the Old in with the New

It didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs to shake up their 2013 roster. Less then 24 hours after getting to the league mandated 53 man roster, the Chiefs cut six players, traded another, added seven new bodies to fill those spots and added eight to their taxi squad.
