According to WCJB out of Gainesville, Florida, the step-father of CJ Spiller was allegedly involved in a shooting spree earlier today (Creidt: Rick Stewart/Getty Images) According to Yahoo Sports, WCJB in Gainesville, Florida is reporting that the man involved in a shooting spree earlier today allegedly is Buffalo Bills’ running back C.J. Spiller’s step-grandfather. The shooting took place in Lake Butler, Florida earlier today as Hubert Allen Jr., shot four people, killing two and injuring two, before killing himself. Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports details the events of the shooting. “According to WCJB, Union County Sheriff Jerry Whitehead said Allen, Spiller’s step-grandfather, shot a man at his former place of business, went to the business owner’s farm and shot three people, then went home and shot himself. Authorities don’t know a motive. Allen started shooting at Pritchett Trucking, where he used to work. He shot David Griffis, who is in critical condition, WCJB reported. Allen then went to Marvin Pritchett’s farm and shot and killed him and farmhand Rolando Gonzalez, WCJB reported. He also shot Lewis Mabrey Jr., who is in critical condition, according to the report. Allen then went home and shot himself.” Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone discussed the shooting spree following the team’s 30-7 loss to the Washington Redskins on Saturday. “I was made aware just now that there are various reports out there,” said Marrone after Buffalo’s Saturday preseason game at Washington. “I did know that the situation did occur prior to us playing. I didn’t know anything about any facts or anything like that and I still just became aware of the facts that there are media reports out there, but I have no idea of what exactly is true and what’s going on.” When asked if Spiller knew about any of the details of the event prior to the game, Marrone did not think his top running back had been fully informed about it. As far as I know he knew that there was something that happened personally, but we really didn’t have any information prior to the game,” said Marrone. “I was aware of the various media reports right after the game, but no one knows all the facts so I’m not going to comment at this time.” When stories like this happen, it is hard to care about sports and instead we must focus our attention and prayers on the families of those involved.
