Cowboys' Dak Prescott reducing interceptions, re-establishing himself as franchise QB

Although it's early in the regular season, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has potentially overcome the interception issue that hindered him in 2022.

The 30-year-old did not commit any turnovers for a second consecutive game in a 30-10 victory against the Jets on Sunday. Per The Athletic's Jon Machota, Prescott never went two straight games without a pick last season when he tied the league lead with a career-high 15.

"What about the year before that? Or the year before that?" Prescott said of his interception rate in a post-game news conference. "Last year is last year, and it's something I've left. As I stated last year, every one of them has their story. But that's not where my mind is. That's not something I think about. Just being candid, I really don't care about the questions at this point."

Along with reducing turnovers, the two-time Pro Bowler is increasing his efficiency. Through two games, he's completed 44-of-62 passes (71 percent) for 398 yards and two TDs. Also, Prescott recorded an above-average QBR of 83.7, the best in the NFL.

While many questioned letting HC Mike McCarthy assume playcalling this offseason, some believe the changes he's made elevated the QB.

"Dak really got to places that I haven't seen as fast in previous years," CBS Sports analyst and former Cowboys QB Tony Romo said during the TV broadcast, per Machota. "A lot of that is because he's timing up the footwork with the route. That's a key component of Mike McCarthy's offense. I think that's going to pay dividends when you're under pressure, like he's been a little bit today, and he's making it look easy."

It's unclear if the Cowboys are the best team in the NFC since it hasn't faced Philadelphia or San Francisco. However, they're early Super Bowl contenders because their defense has only allowed 10 points in two games, and Prescott is re-establishing himself as a franchise QB.
