It's always a busy time when the first preseason games roll around, a chance to pull on the pads, play and hit in real game time situations as opposed to slowing down in training drills. The Cowboys had the added dimension of a trip to Canton to play in the annual Hall of Fame game. So in a busy week lets try and pick out the bones of a hectic week for the Dallas Cowboys.First round draft pick Travis Frederick has seen extended practice time at right guard. This isn't too much of a problem given the injury problems the Cowboys have had in that position. He is of course looking to lock down the role of center, but with Phil Costa eyeing that role, these two will be shifted around to fin the right blend as camp goes on.Rookie wide receiver Terrance Williams has had some "Wow" moments in camp, but also some "Oh no" times. This is of course is to be a little expected as he comes to terms with life in camp, but before the Miami Dolphins game in Canton he had an injury that would keep him off the field for a few days. He came down akwardly going for a high pass, landed on his back and hit his head. After being checked for concussion he was announced as day-to-day but should have the green light to return in a few days.Another listed as day-to-day is second year safety Matt Johnson. He was the main concern coming away from Canton and back to Oxnard. "It could be a little while. When I say ‘a little while,’ it may be next week. We’ll see how he feels the rest of this day, but we’re hopeful he can practice today (Tuesday) said head coach Jason Garrett.Everyone knows about the attention to detail the Cowboys are putting into the offensive line this off season, it was a big achilles heel last season, but one man is trying to stay focused amongst the drama. Mackenzy Bernadeau understands why the team is on the lookout for new players to help the O-line but is focused on his game, “I’m motivated just from myself,” Bernadeau said. “Teams have got to do what they’ve got to do to get better. The coaching staff, personnel staff, they know what they have to do. I’m motivated to try to be the best guard that I can be. I want to be the best guard in the league."Someone who is keeping a keen eye on my top story is quarterback Tony Romo. He sat out the game in Canton, but didn't need to be on the field to see why others are geting excited. “Travis has done a great job,” Romo said. “They picked a good one there. He’s going to be a guy who’s going to help us a lot for a long time. I don’t know whether people are talking about whether or not we reached for him and stuff like that I guess at the time, but he’s good football player and we got a good first-round draft pick there.”So what happened in game time, then? Well the Cowboys rested the majority of their first string players against the Miami Dolphins, a sensible decision. When they did show up against the Oakland Raiders they looked sharp. In both games the defense provided the spark with two early turovers in each game. This was something of concern last year so all players and staff will be happy with that. In both games there was some strong running from all the backs, Murray showed some good speed on the edge agaisnt Oakland, Dunbar is looking better as each day passes so it was no surprise when he had a strong game against Miami. Against the Raiders the second and third's had a tricky time containing the run option that the silver and black had going, so Monte Kiffin will surely look to adress those issues during the coming week. For the record the Cowboys beat the Dolphins 24-20, but lost to Oakland 19-17.Next week the Cowboys go on the road to Arizona, and some decisions have to be made as cut day looms ahead.
