You know how I mentioned earlier in the day that Brooking and Leonhard may not even make the roster due to injuries? Well, there is a bit of bright news to contrast that opinion.

Safety Jim Leonhard practiced for the first time as Denver Bronco on Tuesday. He had been recovering from surgery on an injury that he suffered in December as a member of the Jets, when he tore the patellar tendon in his right knee.

The Broncos now have a crowded backfield with the likes of Rahim Moore, David Bruton, Mike Adams, and the recently returned Quinton Carter. Even though there is a competition taking place amongst the starting safety spots, I expect Carter to hold down his SS starting spot, with Moore likely getting the nod at FS.

In that scenario, Adams will obviously stay. Adams has been a consistent starting safety in the NFL since he entered the league in 2003. In the scenario that Moore or Carter start to struggle in their sophomore campaigns – which wouldn't shock anybody if it did – Adams could step in immediately, injury-free, and pick up the slack.

David Bruton blocked two punts this past Saturday night vs. Seattle, and was seen making tackles on special teams also. Although Bruton – a fourth round draft pick of the Josh McDaniels regime in 2009 – hasn't panned out as a starting safety in the league, his contributions in the special teams department is valuable.

This brings in the question of, "Will Jim Leonhard be kept on the Broncos' 53 man roster?"

NFL teams typically keep 10 defensive backs – six cornerbacks and four safeties. If the Broncos are to keep the quartet of Moore, Adams, Bruton and Carter, are the Broncos willing to keep Leonhard, while negating a roster spot that could be used on another position of need?
