What a week. Football is back, and life is alright again. Last night, I got filled up on smoked chicken and a few Bud Lights and got to watch the Montana Grizzlies beat Appalachian State 30-6 under the lights of the Big Sky. Well, more accurately, under the newly installed stadium lights. Having said that, I have neglected the Denver Broncos this week. I got updates on my phone each time they drew closer to beating the Arizona Cardinals, or so I had hoped. However, the Broncos ended up losing their last preseason game to the Cardinals, 32-24. Though the loss did not come without some impressive plays. Rookie cornerback Kayvon Webster tied for a team-high seven tackles, and even racked up two unnecessary roughness penalties throughout the game. “I’m going to continue to play football. I can’t let that scare me. I have to go out there and do my job. You can’t let a penalty make you scared to play the game. You’ve just got to go out and play and whatever happens, happens. You deal with the consequences after the game,” Webster said after the game. Rookie defensive tackle Sylvester Williams got some hits in as well, three to be exact. “The biggest thing about the preseason is getting better every week and knocking the rust off of you. For some guys, it’s been months since they played football – everybody, it’s been months,” Williams said. However, all eyes, for the players as well as the fans, are on Thursday’s opener against the Baltimore Ravens. I don’t think any of us can forget that heartbreaking loss to them last year. Sylvester Williams, even as a rookie, knows how important this game is. “For us, we’re taking it one day at a time. We’re thinking about tomorrow, watching film and correcting this game. Going into Baltimore is going to be a big week for us. It’s a big game. Obviously, we lost to those guys last year at a crucial time of the year, so we want to come out there and play well against those guys. Our coaches are going to prepare us and our players are going to play,” Williams said. The Broncos open the doors to Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Thursday at 6:30 Mountain Time to the Ravens, for the NFL kickoff game.
