For the first time since 2007, left tackle Ryan Clady will not be at the starting position. Clady was placed on the Denver Broncos’ injured reserve Wednesday after suffering a Lisfranc joint tear in his left foot Sunday against the New York Giants. This comes just after a five-year contract extension he signed in July with the Broncos, guaranteeing him a spot on the team through 2017. On Monday, Chris Clark signed a two-year contract extension with the Broncos, and is being looked at to take over Ryan Clady’s position. Clark said he is “ready to go,” having played in Clady’s position throughout the preseason and in training camp as Clady was recovering from a then shoulder injury. “With our mentality of next man up, I think the best part about this team is having depth,” Wide Receiver Eric Decker said. “I think we do have a lot of guys that can fill a position. Chris Clark is one guy that is going to step up.” “You’re not going to replace him but Chris Clark did a great job all spring and in the preseason, so he’s had plenty of work,” Offensive Line Coach Dave Magazu said. “It’s not like he’s going in unprepared or not knowing what’s going on. So everybody should feel comfortable, let’s go with the mentality next guy up and let’s go to work.” On Wednesday, the Broncos also signed eight-year veteran Winston Justice. In other news comes a man I believe I completely failed to mention in my game recap. Trindon Holliday has earned his second Special Teams AFC Player of the Week Award. This came from an 86-yard punt return against the Giants with 10:32 to play in the fourth quarter Sunday. The first time he received this award was last season, returning a 105-yard punt in week nine. And if memory serves me correctly, that was right after we picked him off of the waivers from Houston. His punt return touchdown against the Giants was the first punt returned for a score in the league this season.
