Found July 26, 2013 on The Penalty Flag:
PLAYERS: Corey Fuller
TEAMS: Detroit Lions
The Arizona Cardinals lost rookie WR Ryan Swope when he announced his retirement on July 25 before playing in a single NFL game or even attending training camp.  Swope declared his retirement due to issues related to multiple concussions, the most recent of which occurred, according to the wide receiver, during the Cardinals’ OTA’s. If everyone remembers correctly, when it came time for the Detroit Lions to select in the sixth round there sat Swope and Virginia Tech’s Corey Fuller.  Swope was the better known receiver with more practical experience, good speed and lots of potential.  Lions fans remember their own reactions when Detroit selected track star turned wide receiver Fuller over Swope.  At the time I remember many fans questioning the move; looking back after the recent Swope announcement, Lions management looks like they did their homework.  Stinging from Jahvid Best’s concussion issues, and having had to know about Swope’s history, the Lions may have opted for the safer choice in Fuller... Lions' success rides on Stafford's performance

Allen Park, Mich. -- Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford knows that much of the team's success rides on his performance. Entering his fifth NFL season, Stafford has had a somewhat uneven career thus far, due in part to injuries early on and poor overall team play in other instances. So is Stafford destined to be the quarterback who threw 5,038 yards with 41 touchdowns...

Schwartz considers last season "humbling"

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Jim Schwartz had taken the Detroit Lions franchise from the laughingstock of the NFL 0-16 in 2008, the season before he became coach to 10 wins and the playoffs in just three years. There was steady progress, legitimate optimism and growing expectations, leading to what seemed to be a well-deserved contract extension. That was a year ago. The mood is considerably...

Camp notes: Quin's leadership and Suh's conditioning

Allen Park, Mich. -- Very quietly, veteran safety Glover Quin is making his presence felt. "It was pretty seamless, him coming from Houston," coach Jim Schwartz said. "He's been in the league for a little bit, so that was fairly easy for him. Got the terminology, picked up our system quickly and gained the respect of the other guys in the locker room." For...

Johnson has been Lions' lone star last 2 seasons

Calvin Johnson has given the Detroit Lions something to be proud of the past two years. He's probably the only person who can say that. The humble wide receiver, though, would be the last one to boast. Johnson broke one of Jerry Rice's single-season records last year with 1,964 yards receiving. He also tied Rice's personal mark with a NFL-leading 122 receptions. But...

We’re confident in our players, we’re confident in our system. I like...

Video: Calvin Johnson makes impressive catch at Lions training camp

Tweet We know it’s only training camp, but apparently Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is picking up right where he left off last season and is back to embarrassing defensive backs, this time teammate Chris Houston: Just another example of why Megatron is the highest-paid receiver in NFL history. Football season is right around [...]

Detroit Lions Waive OL Bill Nagy

And the struggles continue for offensive lineman Bill Nagy who is finding it hard to not only stay healthy, but to also keep a job in the NFL as he was now released by the Detroit Lions. Considering their need for offensive line help, this doesn’t bode well. Nagy, who was drafted as a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys has played in only four regular season games. Once healthy...
