Every year the Pro Bowl rosters come out, several deserving players are left out in the cold.  This year, a few Lions can say they should be going to Honolulu, but only one will actually make the trip. Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson was named to his second Pro Bowl (surprise!) this year, after having a spectacular season.  Many point to Johnson as the best wideout in the league and he should get MVP consideration. Sadly, Johnson is the only Lion who will represent the team in Honolulu.  Leading the snubs is quarterback Matthew Stafford.  Instead of Stafford, Giants quarterback Eli Manning will make the trip to Hawaii. I’ll let the numbers talk for me here, although it should be noted that Stafford’s team has a better record and has clinched a playoff spot already. Stafford (10-5) 385/604 (63.7%) 4,518 yards  36tds  14int  96.6 rating Manning (8-7) 335/556 (60.3%) 4,587 yards  26tds  16int  90.3 rating So Manning has thrown for 70 more yards than Stafford and that’s it.  Stafford has h...

Georgia's Mark Richt happy for Matthew Stafford, Lions

Even at the Outback Bowl, there's discussion about the Detroit Lions making the NFL playoffs for the first time since 1999.

4,518 yards, 36 TDs not enough for Stafford to make Pro Bowl

The Lions haven't had a quarterback selected to the Pro Bowl since Greg Landry in 1971, and statistically at least, the argument can be made that Matthew Stafford should have gone this year.

Lions only get Calvin in Pro Bowl, Stafford Snubbed!

The NFL Pro Bowl Rosters were announced earlier today, and the Detroit Lions ended up with only WR Calvin Johnson representing them in the annual game held in Honolulu, Hawaii. Every year there are always players deserving that get left out of the game, but it always hurts worse when its your hometown player that is the one getting snubbed. I am talking of course of the Lions SUPERSTAR...

Matthew Stafford Snubbed From The Pro Bowl

When you look at the NFC's Pro Bowl roster, it's hard to argue against any of the quarterbacks that made the cut. Aaron Rodgers should be a shoo in to win the 2011 MVP, and Drew Brees just eclipsed Dan Marion's single season passing record with another game to play. There's no doubt that they both deserve to be on the NFC's Pro Bowl squad. Eli Manning started...

Calvin Johnson is Lions' lone representative for Pro Bowl

Wide receiver Calvin Johnson was the only Lions named to the NFC's Pro Bowl roster Tuesday evening.

Playoff-bound Lions have only 1 voted to Pro Bowl

The Detroit Lions' only player voted to the Pro Bowl, Calvin Johnson, watched his teammates work out Wednesday. He might just be resting to be ready for the regular-season finale Sunday at Green Bay. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is not a Pro Bowl selection despite having numbers comparable to New York's Eli Manning and playing for a team that definitely will be in the playoffs...

This Day in Sports: Lions complete 0-16 season

Dec. 28, 2008 The Detroit Lions became the first NFL team to go 0-16 in a season with a 31-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Detroit set a record for futility, surpassing the 0-14 record of the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976. The Bucs were the last NFL team to endure a winless season. The Lions fell into a 14-0 hole against the division rival Packers but rallied to cut...
