Last week: 19 (-6) Record: 4-6 I’ve said it a bunch of times this year, but every year, one team goes from in the playoffs to 5 wins or fewer. It’s looked like a shaky prediction as times this year, especially since every single playoff team from last year is 5-5 or better right now, except one (Saints and Bengals are both 5-5, so they’re still technically candidates). The Lions are that one team and if you look at their remaining schedule, it’s not hard to imagine some way they go 1-5 over their final 6 games. They host Houston and Indianapolis, go to Green Bay and Arizona, then host Atlanta and Chicago. Studs RT Gosder Cherilus: Allowed 1 quarterback hurry on 49 pass block snaps, 1 penalty, run blocked for 4 yards and a touchdown on 2 attempts WR Calvin Johnson: Caught 5 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts on 49 pass snaps, 4.4 YAC per catch, 1 drop DT Nick Fairley: 2 sacks, 1 quarterback hit, and 3 quarterback hurries on 31 pass rush snaps, 1 penalty, 2 solo tackl...

Backus inactive, start streak ends at 186 games

DETROIT -- Lions tackle Jeff Backus will miss Thursday's game against Houston with a hamstring injury, ending his regular-season games started streak at 186. The news had been expected since Backus sustained the injury in Sunday's loss to Green Bay, but was made official when the Lions released their inactive list 90 minutes before the Thanksgiving Day kickoff. The total...

Jim Schwartz threw a penalty flag too early and cost his team 7 points against the Houston Texans

Jim Schwartz, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, threw a penalty flag after this play by Houston Texan running back Forsett who was done after a 7 yard game. However, the officials let the play continue. If Schwartz wouldn’t have thrown that flag, the play actually would have been reviewable. Instead of a 7 yard gain, it turned into 7 points. That’s just bad coaching. Will...

NOT THAT GOOD: Titus Young benched for behavior, but is he even worth the trouble?

For the second time this season, Lions wide receiver Titus Young was disciplined for what is only being described as ‘bad behavior’. According to ProFootballTalk.com, Young was sent home upon arriving at the Lions’ Allen Park training facility Monday morning. He’s expected to be out of practice for the next week and will not play in Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day game against...

Lions list Backus inactive, ending 186-game streak

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Jeff Backus is inactive against the Houston Texans, ending his 186-game starting streak. Rookie Riley Reiff replaced Backus at left tackle Thursday. Backus is out with a hamstring injury after starting every game of his 12-year career. Detroit did have starting safety Louis Delmas back in the lineup after he missed three straight games with an injured...

Mike Thomas to start for Lions in place of suspeneded Titus Young

Mike Thomas will start in place of Titus Young for the Detroit Lions this Thanksgiving. The Lions recently suspended Young after he lined up in the wrong spot for multiple plays in the teams 24-20 loss to Green Bay on Sunday. Drafted out of Boise State  in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Lions, Young has played in 26 games for the Lions and caught 81 pass for 990 yards...

Former Brown Jerome Harrison featured in CBS Thanksgiving special

Today, before the first NFL game of the day on CBS, the network aired a special on former Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Harrison during its pre-game show. Harrison, who was Cleveland’s fifth round pick in 2005 and famously rushed for 286 and three touchdowns yards in a game back in 2009, later ended up as a member of the Detroit Lions. He was set to be traded to the Philadelphia...

Reiff Likely To Start Against Texans

Detroit's rookie offensive tackle Riley Reiff will likely supplant incumbent Jeff Backus during Thursday's Turkey Day game against Texans.

Video: Lions get hosed by bad call and worse rule

Justin Forsett recorded the longest run in Houston Texans history in their Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. It appeared as if Forsett was dropped after a decent gain, but the whistle was not blown and he continued running as everyone else let up. He ended up in the end zone 81-yards later. Watching [...]

Ndamukong Suh kicks Matt Schaub in the groin

In the first quarter of the Houstin Texans game against the Detroit Lions, Ndamukong Suh attempted to sack Matt Schaub. He did not get to the quarterback in time but still knocked Schaub down. Suh (whether intentional or not) decided to kick low and landed a blow right to Matt Schaub’s groin <

Ndamukong Suh channels his inner Lloyd Christmas and still believes the Lions are in the playoff race

After being being swept in the season series by a Christian Ponder led Minnesota Vikings team and losing is resounding fashion last weekend against Green Bay, the chances that the Lions actually make the playoffs this season are pretty much gone. I believe it was Lloyd Christmas though from Dumb and Dumber who muttered “So you’re saying there’s a chance” when basically...
