LeSean McCoy, running back for the Philadelphia Eagles finally got the contract extension he deserved.

One of the top priorities of the Philadelphia Eagles coming into training camp was to get a deal done with Pro Bowl running back Lesean McCoy.

Like many of the other priorities the team had this year, you can check that one off of the list. The Eagles announced that they had reached an agreement with McCoy for a five year deal worth $45 million.

The deal reportedly has $21 million in guarantees and keeps McCoy in Philly until 2017.

LeSean McCoy had an outstanding year in 2011 despite the Eagles’ shortcomings as a team. McCoy was the Eagles’ most consistent offensive weapon, rushing for 1,309 yards on 273 carries. He scored 17 rushing touchdowns and added 3 more in the air to go along with 315 yards receiving.

The 23 year old McCoy, a Harrisburg, PA native was drafted by the Eagles in 2009 from Pitt and has gotten better every year.

With McCoy in the fold, the Eagles appear pretty much set. The Eagles signed DeSean Jackson to an extension earlier this offseason ending a long standoff with the wide receiver. Signing McCoy avoids a similar situation altogether.
