Today, on ESPN’s NFL 32, Ed Werder proclaimed that David Wilson will “absolutely be the lead runner for the Giants in 2013.” Werder simply figures Wilson is in line for the lion’s share of the carries now that Ahmad Bradshaw is gone.
Andre Brown is still on the roster and should get the bulk of the goal-line carries, but I anticipate Wilson will be getting 15+ carries or so this year and rightfully should. After landing himself in the doghouse following a lost fumble early in last year’s opener, Wilson finished off the season with 358 yards on 71 carries and 4 TDs.
Wilson showed the ability last year, with blazing speed and 5.0 ypc, but is still a little raw. However, even though Brown should get the TDs, Wilson should get the majority of the carries thanks to his explosiveness and should turn out to be a situation similar to what we saw with CJ Spiller last year. With his raw talent and grit, Wilson should make it real tough for the Giants to keep him out of the game.
