Eric Fisher, the dynamite offensive tackle out of Central Michigan, might wind up on the Detroit Lions’ radar at No. 5 overall, especially if the team loses both Jeff Backus (retirement) and Gosder Cherulis (free agency). And, if ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. has his finger on the pulse, using the fifth pick on Fisher might not be much of a stretch. Kiper said Eric Fisher of CMU is “now solidily in the top 10, probably in the top 7″ … Could he go 5? — Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) February 13, 2013 Just about every team in the top 10 could use another starting offensive tackle, but how realistic is it that Detroit uses its pick on Fisher? Possibly more realistic than most people think. The Lions’ other needs — running back, cornerback, safety, defensive end and possibly linebacker — almost all would require them to reach at No. 5. The lone exception, for now, is DE, where a bevy of talented playmakers could be available up top. One may be able to make a case for Alabama CB Dee Milliner at five, too, especially given Detroit’s desperation at that position. But Kiper reiterated what others have said: Milliner would be a reach that high. So, with Fisher’s stock climbing, could Detroit take the ex-Chippewa and plan for a future line bookended by Fisher and Riley Reiff? It certainly is in the realm of possibilities.
