Ex-Buffalo Bills kicker Rian Lindell agreed to a contract Tuesday night with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a team source.
Lindell and ex-Cowboys kicker David Buehler were two of the specialists the Buccaneers had scheduled for Thursday tryouts. That competition was canceled with Lindell set to join the team.
The Bucs want to provide competition for first-year kicker Derek Dimke, who is 5 for 5 on field goals in preseason games but has never appeared in a regular-season contest.
Veteran kicker Lawrence Tynes has missed almost the entire preseason for Tampa Bay because of a toe injury. FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo reports Tynes is likely headed for injured reserve.
Tynes was signed in July after incumbent Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.
Lindell, who was released Monday by the Bills, finished his 10-year stint in Buffalo as the most accurate kicker in franchise history, at 81.3 percent. Lindell, 36, made 21 of 24 attempts in 2012.
Lindell's limited leg strength won't be as great an issue in Tampa Bay as it was with the Bills. That's because the Buccaneers already have a kickoff specialist, punter Michael Koenen, who could also handle field-goal attempts of 50-plus yards.

Heading into the 2013 preseason, place kicker was not a position of need for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa had Conner Barth on the roster, a kicker who converted 28 of 33 field goals last season, going six of nine from 50 yards or more. Barth was perfect on extra point attempts as well, miking 39 of 39. The position became an area of serious concern when Barth ruptured his Achilles...

While Tampa Bay placekicker Derek Dimke has performed well as Connor Barth’s replacement since Barth was lost for the season with an Achilles injury the Bucs may not be comfortable heading into 2013 with a first-year kicker lined up to hit a potential game-winning last-second field goal this season.

Last week I thought that three players were on the bubble who the Bills might regret cutting.
Of course that was before Buffalo released long time kicker Rian Lindell (which I predicted), and LB Nigel Bradham was cited for marijuana possession.
Continued drug busts and off the field issues can get even the best of players assigned to bubble watch but, since this is a first offense...
