The 2013 fantasy football waiver wire continues to slim down as the playoffs near. So, it’s obviously much more difficult to find a legitimate replacement when needing a bye-week filler or want to try and upgrade at a specific position. The good news is that talent does remain, along with recent production to back it up. The downside is actually sifting through the rubble and landing those diamonds. Ahead are some spots to help you down the stretch in the hopes of reaching fantasy football’s second season.   Case Keenum: QB, Houston Texans Houston has a quarterback in Case Keenum. And should you need a second starting signal-caller, a backup or are desperate to find another starter, allow Keenum to have an opportunity. Despite his limited experience and playing time this season, not to mention being a rookie, Keenum has impressed thus far with four touchdowns to zero interceptions and 621 yards in two games. Can’t get much better than that given Houston’s overall situation.   Jerricho Cotchery: WR, Pittsburgh Steelers Cotchery’s production has been scarce at best this season. That said, he was basically Mr. Everything for the Steelers in Week 9. He caught seven balls for 96 yards and three scores. Perhaps this was just the matchup against the New England Patriots, but clearly Pittsburgh’s offense moves better when Cotchery receives more targets. As a result, expect Ben Roethlisberger to send more his way as 2013 progresses. With fantasy football playoff hopes potentially withering, another big game from Cotchery could provide the make-or-break points you need to get that final edge.   Cleveland Browns Defense Not only is the Cleveland Browns defense for real, but it’s arguably the best in pro football. Now, they aren’t by statistical standards, however, Cleveland does rank sixth against the pass, seventh against the rush and has logged 31 sacks in only nine games. Can you imagine how sick Ray Horton’s defense would be had it been backed by a consistently sound offense? Regardless, Cleveland’s defense is going unnoticed since the Browns still sport a below-.500 record.
