Eli Manning and the Giants offense have been in a lull the past few weeks. In today's 31-13 loss to the Bengals, Manning did not throw a touchdown pass for the third straight week -- just the second time that's happened in his career, the other when he was a rookie. NFL Films' Greg Cosell and ESPN's Ron Jaworski floated this possible explanation for the recent slump: Manning has a tired arm, evidenced by the fact that he has missed throws he normally makes. Manning said today that is not the case. "I don’t think so," he said. "I feel like I’m making the throws, and I don’t feel like it’s tired." He continued later: "If my arm were tired, I would tell the coaches, and we would shut down some throws or throw a little bit less. I don’t feel like we’re overthrowing, I feel like when I’m making throws, the ball is coming out well, so I don’t see anything into it." Source: Newark Star Ledger Attached Thumbnails

Manning has gone from MVP to playing like rookie

With the New York Giants off to a 6-2 start and holding a big lead in the NFC East, two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning was a legit MVP candidate. Not anymore. After two straight losses and some pathetic offensive play, Manning is now hearing the other side of the equation from fans and critics. His golden arm looks tired and his play is reminiscent of his rookie season when teams...

Giants, Eli Manning go flat in blowout loss

CINCINNATI - The New York Giants have been down this road in Novembers past and still made it to February. After flatlining Sunday in a 31-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, they have to hope they can regroup, recharge and come back from their upcoming bye weekend ready to play like the Giants of the last several seasons -- and even the team they were several weeks ago. Besides...

Simms: Eli Manning isn't elite QB

CBS commentator Phil Simms was somewhat critical of Eli Manning recently, saying the Giants quarterback isn't an elite player.

Giants struggles: Don’t blame Eli Manning

It’s been a rough month for Eli Manning. Other than his rookie season in 2004, it’s probably been the toughest three-week stretch of the Giants’ quarterback career. Still, with the media jumping all over Manning’s back, the New York Giants struggles, on both sides of the ball, shouldn’t be shouldered to the two-time super bowl MVP. Instead, the bulk of the Giants...

2 faces of November: Tony Romo vs Eli Manning

We’re seeing something this season very similar to what we have over the last five years in the quality of play from Tony Romo and Eli Manning during the month of November. For some odd reason, the performances over the last five years or so of these two elite quarterbacks have been closely compared but in November they seem to end up on opposite ends of the field. It turns out...

Phil Simms says Eli Manning isn’t an elite quarterback

During an appearance on CBS Sports Network’s NFL Monday QB show, former Giants quarterback and CBS analyst Phil Simms said that he doesn’t believe Eli Manning is an elite quarterback. “No, he is not one of the elites,” Simms said in quotes distributed by CBS, via the New York Daily News. “Because when I hear the word elite, I’m thinking about guys that can make unbelievable...

NFL Rumors: Did Giants Coach Tom Coughlin Really Call Eli Manning A Terrible Foolish Quarterback?

Currently mired in one of the worst slumps of his career, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has heard it all. From the fans, from the media, from the opposition. You name it and Manning has probably heard it all as of late, especially during the Giants’ two game losing streak and the three game stretch in which Manning has failed to throw a touchdown pass. After Sunday...

Phil Simms: "Eli Manning is not elite"

NY Daily News"No, he is not one of the elites," Simms said. "Because when I hear the word elite, I'm thinking about guys that can make unbelievable plays on the field by themselves. There are very few quarterbacks in that category."So yes, Eli has been a tremendous team player. He has been MVP of the Super Bowl twice. I know that. But the way I look at it...

Struggling Bengals to face Super Bowl champs

The New York Giants blew a fourth-quarter lead last week as their four-game winning streak came to an end. With a recent history of struggling through the second half of the season, they hope a matchup with the sliding Cincinnati Bengals proves to be just what they need. The Giants look to get back on track before their bye week as they try to extend the Bengals' losing streak...
