Without question, a key to the Eagles beating the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night is stopping red hot Dallas Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray.

Murray exploded for 253 yards last week against the St. Louis Rams, the 9th highest total in NFL history. Logic would say that Murray, who has only 73 yards combined in the teams previous 5 games, is set for a down week after his explosion against the Rams.

While it is possible that the rookie could come back down to earth, history shows that record setting running backs have traditionally done well in the next game.

Take a look at the top ten running games in NFL history, and you will see that in the following week, each running back has had another good game.

1. Adrian Peterson- 2007 -296 yds vs Chargers.....Next week: 45 yds vs Packers

2. Jamal Lewis- 2003- 295 yds  vs Cleveland..... Next Week: 132 yds vs. San Diego

3. Jerome Harrison- 2009- 286 yds vs. Kansas City.....Next Week: 148 yds vs. Oakland

4. Corey Dillion- 2000- 278 yds vs. Denver......Next Week: 137 yds vs. Cleveland

5. Walter Payton- 1977- 275 yds vs. Minnesota.....Next Week: 137 yds vs. Detriot

10. Mike Anderson- 2000- 251 yds vs. New Orleans.....Next Week: 131 vs. Seattle

Look at the numbers closer, and you will see that of the eight running backs who played a game following there near record setting one (Murray has yet to play, Charles had no more games) six of them had over 100 yards the following week.

Of the two backs that did not have over 100 yards, Alexander had 95 and Peterson left the game early with injury.

Overall, the runnings backs averaged 128 yards in the following game.

What does this mean? That if history repeats itself, chances are that Murray could have another big game on Sunday.
