99.4 for the season, 'nuff said.

How ‘Bout Dem Cowboys!! Now to add frosting on the cake, the Giants lost to the Eagles. Winnin ugly is better than losing pretty. Any questions just ask the Giants. I have already seen the boards lighting up how poorly the Cowboys played. Outside of all that hippie talk about how a win is a win, this gave Dallas a divisional advantage.

Now granted Dallas has three divisional games left so this is far from over. Dallas has a lead on everyone in the division except the Eagles who are 3-1 in the division. This will make that game against the Eagles and Giants even more pivotal. So before you start picking apart how Dallas did not get pressure on Grossman, how they allowed Washington their best offensive production in several games, and how they allowed them to stay in the game, keep in mind this is a win.

In reality there is a lot to talk about in this game. Dallas could not cover the ground with a thick blanket on return teams. That field position kept the Redskins in the game. The fact the Redskins were 100% in the red zone. The fact that Dallas did not overwhelm a divisional opponent on the road is all talking points. Finally, don’t give me the argument that Romo calling time out in OT on a third down play would have lost them the game. Maybe Dallas would have had to punt. Maybe Bailey makes an even longer field goal, or maybe Dallas get him even closer. In the end yes Dallas won ugly, but they won.

The Rivalry continues

For those of us fans that find the positive in this win we look at things like, how Dallas did not turn the ball over. How Tony Romo ended up with a 113.8 passer rating and improved over the season to 99.4. That puts him 4th in the league. He is ahead of all of the QBs with bigger salaries. Dan Bailey is playin money. He is making all his kicks even the critical game ender in overtime. I can’t really same game winner, because Dez Bryant made the catch and the Defense made the stop that gave him that opportunity. Gerald Sensabaugh, I am changing his name to Game Stopper, because he stops the other team. He has really played well this season. I am not sure if it’s the scheme or if it’s because we are twitter friends now, but he is making solid plays all over the field. Barry Church has to be mentioned as well. Yeah he still makes his mistakes but he really has played above my expectations. Jason Witten made his longest catch of his career after being held catchless in the first half.

You cannot avoid the fact that this was not a strong win for the Cowboys. No they did not totally wipe out an inferior opponent. Yes there were a lot of mistakes. While many will talk about how Dallas should not have had the win, in the end they did win. On November 5th 1989 the Dallas Cowboys had fewer first downs, fewer passing yards, fewer total yards, and was sacked more than the Washington Redskins. They won 13-3 and it was their only win of the season. Fans like me remember that solo victory of a team that really did not belong on the any field that season. When the season finishes only fans like me will carry the rock salt of this win in our pocket to remind Washington fans how bad their team really is.
