“Kevin Ogletree! Pick him up!!!”

“I called him as a sleeper! My Twitter followers must know!!”

“Now I can call myself a guru and people can’t question it!”

Relax, everyone. If you can pick up Ogletree, that’s great. I got him on waivers in one league, missed out in one that has an auction bid system for pick ups and didn’t even bother in another league because he would never see my starting line up. Either way, I wasn’t very concerned.

Wide receivers, more so than any other position, come and go at a frightening pace. Sometimes they are here to stay, like AJ Green and Laurent Robinson last year. But they can also leave just as quickly, like Mike Williams when he suddenly developed a bad case of the drops and went from the next Randy Moss to somebody that shouldn’t even be rostered in most 10 team leagues.

Is Ogletree this years Laurent Robinson? Or is he simply a one game wonder who, once Witten and Austin are 100%, will fade into obscurity. Realistically he’s probably somewhere in the middle. A game like last night isn’t out of question at some point the rest of the year, but the Cowboys have so many weapons. People seem to forget that Robinson’s monster year last season can be largely attributed to the injury issues Dez Bryant and Miles Austin went through.

History tells us that there will be around five season altering waiver acquisitions. Was Laurent Robinson that last year? I guess you could make the argument for it, but if you are then your team probably wasn’t very good. Cam Newton, Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles; those were game changers last season.

The thing about those players is that there were only 1 or 2 breakouts at their positions. In the receiving corps, and this obviously has a lot to do with the fact that their are more recievesrs than any other offensive skill position, there was Green, Robinson, Victor Cruz, Jordy Nelson, Antonio Brown and even Demariyus Thomas was a late season help.

My point is, when you go to blow your auction money, or put in your waiver claims, don’t waste it on a receiver unless you’re really thin at that position. Go and try to find the next freakshow tight end (Jared Cook, Jermaine Gresham, Etc.) or try and find the breakout running back of the season. Watch the first year quarterbacks like a hawk. If Russel Wilson has a big game then you make damn sure you pick him up. But if Leonard Hankerson has a big game for Washington, trust me when I tell you that their will be another receiver next week who will seemingly come out of nowhere.
