Could Steven Jackson's time with the St. Louis Rams be coming to a close? Perhaps so. The Rams' all-time leading rusher will be allowed to void the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent after this season, according to CBSSports.com. Jackson, drafted 24th overall by St. Louis in 2004, has led the Rams in rushing each year since 2005. He has 9,288 yards for his career, producing at least 1,000 in each of the past seven seasons. According to the CBSSports.com report, Jackson, 29, failed to reach the necessary incentives to void out of the last two years of his contract but was granted permission anyway. Jackson has repeatedly stated his desire to finish his career in St. Louis, which is in its first year under coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead. On Tuesday, Jackson mentioned the topic when asked what a 3-2 start would mean to him. "I've only been a Ram, so it would feel good," Jackson said then. "I hope to retire a Ram, so I hope to have a lot more of those and be on the winning end of a win-loss column." Entering Thursday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals, Jackson leads the Rams with 195 yards on 59 carries. His season-high came in a Week 4 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, when he had 55 yards on 18 carries. He has been sidelined at times with a groin injury this fall, which was sustained late in the first half of a Week 2 victory over the Washington Redskins. The Rams drafted two running backs in April: Isaiah Pead (second round) and Daryl Richardson (seventh). Both have been used in supplementary roles, with Richardson (five carries for 36 yards) receiving most work in the No. 2 spot. Pead has one carry for 4 yards and has mostly appeared on special teams.
