As you probably know by now, I'm a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and have been ever since I can remember. So can imagine how great I feel to see the 'Niners do well. Before last season, I haven't been able to say that for a while, since the 49ers didn't make the playoffs every year since the '02-'03 season. To be honest, I didn't expect the team to make the strides they did last season, coming within two special teams fumbles of making it to the Super Bowl. I figured under the direction of head coach Jim Harbaugh, San Francisco would win the NFC West, but not make it all the way to the NFC Championship Game. This season was supposed to be the year where we could see the 49ers make it back to the top and tie the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history. Well here we are, with the 49ers sitting at 8-2-1, comfortably in first place in the NFC West and poised to make that Super Bowl run. A lot of people (myself included) believe i...

The reaction to Alex Smith losing the San Francisco 49ers starting gig to Colin Kaepernick has been strange to say the least. Smith has received an outpouring of sympathy and support from fans and media who apparently just started watching Smith play in 2011.

After another big win, 49ers QBs still in limbo
Jim Harbaugh has watched each of his two quarterbacks lead the San Francisco 49ers to big wins in hostile, road environments - Alex Smith in the season opener at Green Bay's Lambeau Field back in September, and Colin Kaepernick on Sunday at the New Orleans Superdome.
Which one gets the ball on Sunday at St. Louis? Harbaugh is still mum on that, though he did say Monday he will...
Smith active for 49ers, but Kaepernick starts
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, sidelined since Nov. 11 with a concussion, was cleared to play today against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, but Colin Kaepernick is the starter. It will be the second start for Kaepernick, the second-year player out of Nevada, who helped demolish the Chicago Bears Monday night, 32-7. Smith is the only other active quarterback...
San Francisco 49ers will announce starting quarterback this week
Last week, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh declined to announce the team’s starting quarterback prior to their game against the New Orleans Saints. Harbaugh cited that he didn’t want to give the other team a competitive edge in game planning. This week however, Harbaugh has had a change of heart and has told reporters that he will formally announce the Niners starting...
Stat Pack: Alex Smith Now, Colin Kaepernick Later
Adam Dobrowolski explains why quarterback controversy may cost the 49ers a Super Bowl, but keeping future options open is the best long-term solution.
Alex Smith, Brandon Jacobs Active For 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers' list of inactive players Sunday features two notable absences.
Quarterback Alex Smith is active for the first time since suffering a concussion against St. Louis in Week 10. Running back Brandon Jacobs, a non-factor for the 49ers to this point in the season, is also active.
The 49ers have not announced whether Smith or second-year quarterback Colin...

Report: Alex Smith could be done in San Francisco
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, this could be quarterback Alex Smith’s final season with the San Francisco 49ers if he doesn’t regain his starting spot now that Colin Kaepernick has taken over as Niners’ lead signal-caller.
The 49ers didn’t draft Kaepernick in the 4th round of the 2011 draft to sit and watch. It’s obvious that he’s ready to take over as their...
Straight Outta Stockton - Week 12
This week's Straight Outta Stockton could easily be renamed Straight Outta Aikman as the lead NFL on Fox analyst had a rough time during yesterday's Saints-49ers game. While a few of those are noted below, I have to pay tribute to the work Aikman is doing to the English language. Multiple times during Sunday's telecast, Aikman said "I don't disagree"...

From the begining I’ve believe Kaepernick gives the 49ers the best chance to win, so I believe this is the best move for them.
