Like every press conference Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley has, there is a smile. This time, the smile was a little brighter. For the first time all week, Bradley said he was pleased with the overall performance of his offense and the play of both his quarterbacks. The offense that was supposed to showcase talent and opportunity and speed is coming together, thanks in part to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, receivers coach Jerry Sullivan and offensive line coach George Yarno. This is a team that not only wants to be better, it seems to look better. While injuries are still a concern for this team with Cecil Shorts and rookie draft pick Luke Joeckel missing practice time, the look on Bradley's face and the comments he made Wednesday, via jaguars.com lead me to believe this is a team that will be ready for the New York Jets. Here are some observations from the practice field...Special dayGus Bradley was pleased with his team's play on special teams. He said he thought the unit was solid and set the tone for practice. The Jaguars now only have Josh Scobee in camp. The team cut Adam Yates on Tuesday.MJD to playIt is expected that Maurice Jones-Drew will see his first action of the preseason against the Jets. Jones-Drew did not play in the opener against the Dolphins and usally does not play in the first preseason game. The Jets however, will allow him to see the field and get more reps in before the team plays Philadelphia at home?Decision Day on ThursdayGus Bradley will decide who will start on Thursday versus the Jets. Blaine Gabbert was on fire Wednesday completing 13 of 15 passes in 11-on-11 drills. Chad Henne was not as impressive, only 6-of-11 on the day. Mike Kafka and Adam Scott also saw time with reps.Tight end successMarcedes Lewis is coming around and had a great practice Wednesday. Lewis has been a bit critical of the offensive play this offseason. He had four catches during the session. The Jaguars are also looking for a backup to the former Pro Bowl player.
