Longtime Cowboys mainstay Jason Witten says he has no qualms about the the team drafting a tight end in this year's draft. In fact, he's looking forward to the opportunity to mentor the young Gavin Escobar out of San Diego State.
“It sounds like they were really high on him and think he can be a good player,” Witten said Friday at the Mesquite Boys & Girls Club, via The Dallas Morning News.
“I’ll do everything I can to help him with that process to allow us to be more successful and give us a chance to win. Ultimately, that’s all I care about…There’s no ego there for me. It’s all about winning and that’s a part of being a leader and a captain, to help other guys play at a high level. There’s no hard feelings from that standpoint.”
The Cowboys are banking on Escobar to open up the offense to a new level along with Witten. “I think that’s a big part of where we’re seeing our football team go,” he said. “I think more than anything else, I look at it and said they’re showing that there’s a commitment to this package and when you take a guy that high that’s something you obviously see happening.”

According to CBS Dallas Fort Worth, Cowboys offensive lineman Doug Free doesn’t he’ll be in Dallas much longer. A source close to Free tells me the veteran “anticipates not being with the Cowboys’’ as of June 1 – an indication he is presently unwilling to accept Dallas’ proposal that would substantially reduce his $7 million salary and allow him to likely retain his...
I'VE GOT YOUR BACK
Jerry Jones said he expects Tony Romo's game preparation to improve now that he has signed a huge contract, but Jason Witten says that has always been the case.
If the season started today, Doug Free would be our starting RT. The Cowboys are supposedly in the market for a new RT; however, they just let Tyson Clabo slip through their fingers. Clabo signed with the Miami Dolphins today, so you can scratch him off the list. The Cowboys still have options with Eric Winston and Winston Justice, but the longer the Cowboys wait the closer they...
The Dallas Cowboys and their part time GM didn't have a great draft, how will that impact their season. After signing Tony Romo to a huge contract, does he have enough talent to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs? The NFC East has some solid teams and don't expect the Eagles to be a door mat again this season.
I like the Cowboys to win their home games, especially...
The Dallas Cowboys and right tackle Doug Free are quite seeing eye to eye these days. The team isn't willing to pay him his $7 million base salary in 2013, so it's either take a pay cut or get released to make room for his replacement.
And their replacement they have in mind is apparently free agent Tyson Clabo. According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas, "The Cowboys...
MESQUITE Tony Romo's six-year, 108 million contract extension has Dallas Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones looking for more time on the job from his franchise quarterback.
Jones has said multiple times that his request for Peyton Manning-type hours from Romo shouldn't be confused with the idea that Romo hasn't been putting in extra work. Jones wants even more commitment...
According to CBS Dallas Fort Worth, offensive tackle Tyson Clabo is the Cowboys’ top free agent target right now. The Cowboys’ top-rated free-agent tackle is, by far, ex-Falcons stalwart Tyson Clabo. One source maybe optimistically says Clabo might settle for a one-year deal worth around $4 million. But his leverage in this situation figures to earn him more – somewhere. The...
One of the moving pieces in the Cowboys’ right tackle equation is moving. Does it mean another piece is staying? Tyson Clabo, Dallas’ top-ranked free agent tackle and an upgrade over incumbent Doug Free, is signing with Miami, according to his agent. Meanwhile, what is Free up to? Here's the latest:
When Dallas Cowbys owner Jerry Jones came out and let it be known that Tony Romo will put in Peyton Manning-like work around the Cowboys facilities fresh off his $100 million contract, we weren’t sure how to take it. Was Jones just saying that Romo will work as hard as possible now? If that’s the [...]
IRVING One of the moving pieces in the Dallas Cowboys' right tackle equation is moving.
Does it mean another piece is staying?
Tyson Clabo, Dallas' top-ranked free agent tackle and an upgrade over incumbent Doug Free, is signing with Miami, according to his agent. That transaction removes some of the leverage the Cowboys may have had over Free, who as of a few days ago...
At a time when most discussion of the Dallas Cowboys draft begins with the question “can you believe they drafted that center in the first?!” sources inside the organization are apparently quite pleased with this year’s haul. In contrast to most fan analysis across the country which is disappointed with the Cowboys draft based solely on assessment of value at pick 31, the Cowboys...
