Newly appointed Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice has been in constant contact with quarterback Jay Cutler throughout training camp thus far.

Tice, who was the team's offensive line coach for the past two seasons, has said he wants Cutler to indicate his 'likes' and 'dislikes' about the plays they run. He wants his quarterback to be comfortable.

“We want to know what he likes. I think it’s very important to have a lot of communication with the quarterback and the running back and the receivers," Tice said. "Why call things they’re not comfortable with?”

Both parties find this relationship great as its already opened the playbook. New quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, who was the offensive coordinator when Cutler and wide receiver Brandon Marshall were together with the Denver Broncos, also has been utilizing this system with Cutler because of its previous results.

In their last season together in Denver, both Cutler and Marshall made Pro-Bowl appearances under this open-door policy between quarterback and coordinator.

Although the constant contact can alter the playbook a little bit, everyone is on board with the fact that not every suggestion will be accepted. They have agreed, however, to run whatever they feel will help beat a given defense.

Aside from the dialogue, Cutler will finally have the freedom  to audible at the line of scrimmage. This is something that he wasn't allowed to do under former offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

“I think it makes everyone’s jobs a little easier because we can put ourselves in a good play,” Cutler said. “If we have something bad and the defense is going to take it over, we can go ahead audible and get out of it and get into something that hopefully we can execute.”

The openness on offense will make everyone more familiar with each other and better sync the offense, especially the aerial attack.
