Dallas Cowboys fans should be rejoicing right now. Why?Jerry Jones has upheld one of his promises.Where's that victory parade bunting circa 1995?Seriously though, when GM/Owner Jones stated last week that changes would be made in a bid to fix up the ailing Cowboys, many thought that the changes would not be the ones expected. On Monday, to back this theory up, he fired running backs coach Skip Peete. The scapegoat for the lack of yards gained on the ground this year. This was the worst year in franchise history in yards gained on the ground (1,296), and was next to last in the entire league this season. Peete of course dint call the plays, and neither could he be blamed for the injuries that befell the roster. This however was the final straw because in his six years in the post, the Cowboys had only ranked in the top sixteen of the leagues end of season totals once. He had the talent, so he had no excuses. Then off the back of this Jones did something that wasn't really expected although it was likely to happen. The firing of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was not a complete shock, given that the team he was in charge of underachieved again this year. Yes, he had to work with a depleted squad but the way his unit was constantly beat down every week meant that something had to give. Ryan had his chances, running his mouth didn't help his cause. Its a fine line when you ant back up your bold promises, and this proved the case.Jerry Jones. Stand up and take a bow. You did something bold and perhaps ambitious, which could help the immediate future of your team.Acting swiftly again, he has completed the hiring of the soon to be 73 year old Monte Kiffin.Kiffin brings a wealth of experience with him having coached in the NFL for 26 years, before joining his son Lane's coaching staff at the University of Southern California. It is likely that Kiffin will implement his Tampa 2 defense which was a huge success with the Buccaneers team he coordinated for. No doubt the Dallas defensive unit is strong when they are all healthy, DeMarcus Ware will likely move to a full defensive end roll and benefit from this. Kiffin's arrival so quickly will help Head Coach Jason Garrett as he prepares fro the DraftJerry Jones. The architect of the Cowboys dreams. Rebuilding for a better future.
