According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, a Jets defensive starter referred to QB Tim Tebow as being “terrible.”
The Jets season has been very disappointing to say the least, which makes it seem somewhat surprising that they haven’t turned to Tebow at some point. Obviously, Rex Ryan is being honest when he says that Mark Sanchez gives them the best shot at winning games both now and in the future.
“It’s not even close,” said G Matt Slauson. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.“
There are so many great quotes in Mehta’s piece that you really should read it, but here’s one that shed some light on what it would take for the Jets to turn to Tebow.
“It would take extreme poor play. . . . like a five-interception game,” said a member of the organization. “Something where it was just ridiculous. It would take Mark to totally just sh– the bed and become unglued (before there was a quarterback change).”
People within the Jets organization actually referred to their receiving corp as being “garbage,” so the problems for this team stem beyond the quarterback position. You have to wonder whether or not Mike Tannenbaum could be on the hot seat after putting together this lackluster group of offensive players. Rex deserves blame as well, but this is Tannenbaum’s team and it looks like it’s going to take a few years to repair their offense.
